Maybe you're right, it's just that without shading it looks to cartoonish for me.

But the pony is already extremely cartoonish, so it'd make sense if the grass followed the same technique.

The grass patterns look great, but the soft shading makes it look like a mess.
The collision between smooth and hard edges make the texture look inconsistent.
I'd recommend to refine the image by hand, but you're using vectors, so that won't work.

Beautiful tutorial, but some advice for those whose clipboards don't work:

Go to X11's Preferences and on the pasteboard, check "Enable Syncing" and "Update CLIPBOARD when pasteboard changes". Don't check anything else off.
