Description One of the main nations in the series, I like how in the SW the whole commonwealth includes Ireland, I wonder how they worked that out, I also had to the Isle of Wight because it wasn't on the map which is bad because that's where One Winged Witches takes place...little error I guess

Enjoy!

London is right there in the map.
It's not hard to spot.

The base used in the first season is in the town of Folkestone in SouthEast England, I believe that is stated in the anime multiple times.

Folkestone was part of No. 11 Group RAF jurisdiction during the OTL Battle of Britain, I bet that whenever the Neuroi sent something across the Straits of Dover at any decent speed that it made combat scrambles fun for the 501st JFW, mainly because any Neuroi would have to cover just 22-miles or so after going "Feet Wet", transitioning from flying over Gallia to the Strait of Dover, before they went "Feet Dry", transitioning from flying over the Strait of Dover to flying over Gallia where it could then rain death upon the land. Naturally Chain Home would give them more time to scramble, but it's still not a lot of distance.

That said, the Britannian flag is pretty interesting, for the most part it's our OTL Union Jack the only difference being the green. It's obvious what this green represents, it represents Wales. That's actually a pretty nice touch when you think about it. Though I would have preferred to have used the Welsh Dragon instead and the less said about the RAF roundel the better.

Isn't the one in the center the Isle of Man?

Yes, but he didn't name it so.

He does that A LOT across the SW universe, many countries are not named, I've had to deduce the names based on a most likely theme and what is on the area for him naming those places (Like in Africa).

Out of curiosity, where are you getting these internal borders? Like the source, not the show.

I check various maps online, first I look for the divisions in wikipedia, then I look for maps and when I have one I "Adapt it" to the figure of the SW Map and then I proceed to draw the divisions.
Sometimes it's easy, other times it's hard due to the shape so I try to have them as precise as a I can.
That's how I do it.

Well, I think you misunderstood my question. My question was how you knew the internal borders of these countries as they are WITHIN the SW Universe. Or are these internal borders not specified and you have free range? Keep in mind, I do make maps myself from time to time, although not much lately. I don't exactly need a lesson in HOW alternate history cartography works.

Oh I see.
It depends on the country, I have to consider 3 things:

1) Elements in the world (Being the most prominent the lack of Abrahamic Religions and a Roman Empire that lasted a lot longer).
2) What the official SW Timiline and Map tells me.

In Britannia's case the map gives you city names which tellls me that the divisions in Britannia are similar to current UK in real life so it's easy.

In the case of other countries that do not have that luxury...I have to use those 3 elements, let me use Azteca (Mexico in the SW universe) as an example.

I know that there is no Christianity in the SW universe and the fact that the country is named Azteca, tells me that probably when Hispanics came to conquer Liberion, they didn't make a complete erradication on their culture and probably where more interested in a cultural exchange and territory and not impose a an opressive religion, as such they probably allowed them to keep their culture, language and religion, it'd explain why the country is still called "Azteca" (Or United Azteca States by its full name).

With that, I take a look at Mexico's states and I simply add the states that have non christian or hispanic names, (Like Veracruz, Guerrero, Puebla etc.)  leaving only native named states with the exception Alta and Baja California (In the Map you can see that Arizona and Nuevo Mexico are part of Azteca and not the United States of Liberion so I arranged them together as Alta California as that's what they were called before the US adquired them).

And that's what I do, sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's very hard (Like in Egypt's case that in this universe always remained Ptolemaic Egypt and never became part of other nations and there is no Islam in the SW unvierse) but it's always a fun thing to do for this amazing series.

Interesting. Okay, I think that your process is fair, but the example you gave, "Azteca", isn't the best. Let me show you.
