Rani lived a pretty normal cubhood with her younger brother Baliyo until one day when she and her parents got caught in a landslide. Rani was able to get out, but unfortunately her parents did not, and she received a scar on her leg which would be a permanent reminder for her of that terrible day. So, she and her brother were raised by their grandmother Janna who became more like a mother to them. Sometime when Rani was a teen, a stranger named Kion came to the Tree of Life to heal a scar that had formed along his eye. Rani believed the scar was very similar to that of the infamous evil Scar, and thus she was leery about Kion and distrusted him. However, she later realized that we all have our scars, much like she did. So she began treating Kion more kindly, and realized how nice he actually was. When her grandmother died, Rani was devastated, and also stressed that she now had to take the throne. However, she and Kion had fallen in love, so she asked him to be her king.

I also headcannon that Rani is a rather small lioness; even when she's full grown she's still just a lil squirt
