PERSONALITY
Serious and dedicated to his chosen profession, driven to achieve fame and renown. At home with upper society, he is a skilled speaker and an unabashed emotional manipulator. Would rather be scandalous than average. Both a scholar and a capitalist, puts science and self-interest before relationships. Prone to favoritism and easily charmed by new ideas. Nostalgic and hedonistic in equal measure, controlling over what he perceives as his.

Lucian is not the best of men, but he owns up to it.
First impressions tend to paint him as a cold, solid professional – someone serious and hard-working with little effort spared for considering the feelings of others.
These first impressions, as it turns out, are not entirely inaccurate.

When it comes to his work, his true passion, Lucian is a dedicated professional with a hint of perfectionism. No effort is spared in research, excavation, conservation or presentation – everything must be perfect. He holds true reverence for history and treats his findings with more tenderness than he ever does people.
Besides being a true scholar and researches, Lucian is also a stone-cold capitalist. While advancing the knowledge of their glorious history is his main goal, he is also keen to make a profit while doing so. He sees no moral issue with selling his finds to private, exclusive collections, removed from scientific discourse for good.
It’s just good business.

Career and wealth are far more important to Lucian than personal relationships – flings are fun, relationships are a bore. Long term connections are cultivated based on their usefulness alone; Lucian knows how place himself in the view of the right people. He fits right in with the upper society – he might not be a noble, but he has something nobles want, which is the second-best thing. Lucian rarely affords the time of day to anyone he doesn’t stand to benefit from in some way.
Never a violent or publicly forceful man, for doing so would be unwise with the company he keeps, Lucian is a speaker. Has a natural talent for understanding what people want, and tugs on their emotions and desires, gently but insistently. Being sharp, adaptable and a little bit crooked are requirements, rather than choices.

Enjoys the Aodhian lifestyle, and all the benefits having money brings. An unapologetic hedonist, he has a special liking for things that might bring him prestige. Whether it be an excessively expensive wine bottle, a piece of art or a person, Lucian forms emotional attachments easiest when he considers something already his.
Whether it be an item, person, or his work, Lucian is known to be very controlling over what belongs to him – you won’t catch him handing any important work off to an assistant. Would rather overwork than share.

Terribly prone to favoritism in all but teaching, Lucian does not shy away from obviously favoring people or ideas, whether it be with monetary support or otherwise. Easily charmed by anything new, exciting and unique while simultaneously chasing some undetermined moment in history where he was truly happy. Immensely conflicted, but confident, Lucian’s conflicting desires to little to slow him down.

Raised on the principle that to be average is to not exist, Lucian strives for excellence, and failing that, infamy. Known for both wonderfully put together exhibits and downright depraved parties – although more the former than the latter – Lucian’s carefully constructed public persona is sure to, if not impress, then at least leave an impression.

HISTORY
Lucian was born into a large family – with three older siblings already bounding around their lovely Bloom home, and several younger ones following after him, he was never a lonely child. His parents were all wealthy and successful in their own careers, so even with the assortment of siblings, Lucian always had everything he could possibly want. In the relaxed and whimsical atmosphere of Bloom his childhood was a happy and safe one, and the general culture encouraged his natural curiosity and interest in art.

After a wholly uneventful early childhood and basic schooling during which his biggest worries were youthful crushes and petty disputes among peers, Lucian eventually graduated Lower Secondary, and like all his siblings before him, continued his studies at the Bloom Upper Secondary, with a focus on fine arts, although he negotiated a special curriculum that allowed him to also take history.
It was around this time that his blessing was discovered – coming into contact with old artifacts and buildings, it was only a matter of time before something triggered a random flash. His parents were overjoyed, as none of their other children had been born blessed, and although Cascade not was a traditional Bloom patron, but a souvenir his birth-father brought from his hometown, it was regardless considered a great blessing. So much so, in fact, that his birth-father took him to New Valore for the first time just to see the Sanctums of Fernos and Enya and allow his child to foster a real relationship with the water goddess.

With this newfound ability, although unreliable at best, Lucian was all the more eager about history – and what better place for it than Bloom, where he could live among what was left of a culture long gone.
Upon graduating, he immediately set his sights on Bloom University, and secured a spot in the conservation program. The next three years of his life were spent learning about not only the history of art, but also the conservation of various materials of different ages.
At 19, he graduated from Bloom University, and made the difficult decision to move to New Valore, where he had already secured a spot in their archaeology program. His parents were unhappy with this decision, and wanting him to stay in Bloom, said they would not pay for his tuition.
Lucian said that was fine and left.

With his first degree already secured, Lucian got a job in New Valore as a conserver of historic buildings, spending his evenings cleaning and preserving the magnificent art and structural beauty of places like Fernos, Ignis and Hearthstone. During the day, he studied.
Most of his pay, although he was well paid, went into paying for his schooling. As there was some overlap with the courses, he graduated with a bachelor in only two more years, and moved on to Master’s. At this point he still worked as a conserver, but also did work as a tour guide in museums and at historic sites, especially during the summer season.

Lucian walked out of New Valore University at 25, holding a degree as a Master of Archaeology. Having spent so many hours working on noble properties, he had already made some powerful contacts – not so much friends, but people who knew and appreciated his skills.
It wasn’t hard to get his first dig funded.

His first excavation was hardly anything spectacular, but it led to another, and then another. Lucian’s life set in a nice rhythm – he used the spring and summer up on archaeological sites, autumn cataloguing and conserving and winter on showcasing, documenting and writing about his finds, until a new spring came. Eventually he reconciled with his parents, who were happy for him and his achievements, although saddened that he still didn’t wish to return to Bloom.
After several years of experience with excavations, exhibits and writing, Lucian has recently accepted a quest lecturer position at New Valore University. Despite his success with his career, he considers this his greatest single achievement.

Currently he is working mainly as a lecturer while finishing his latest scientific publication.

OTHER

  • Most of his family still lives in Bloom, and he visits them when his work allows for it
  • Lives in the Artisan District of New Valore in one of those posh neighborhoods with code on how the yard has to look like
  • An absolute tryhard and has two degrees – his original Bachelor from Bloom University in art conservation, and a Master’s from New Valore University in archaeology
  • Makes a living by collecting funding for excavations from nobility as private donations – those who donate get their pick of the artifacts (in the order of amount donated, of course) once they have been catalogued
  • Politics don’t really interest him. As long as he gets funded, he is fine
  • Teke color is dark blue with hints of gold
  • Voice actor Hugh Dancy (Will Graham – Hannibal)
