BEFORE YOU COMMENT SAYING HOW CRUEL OF A PERSON I AM, READ THIS:If you are about to comment saying that this is absolutely cruel and that hunting wolves is wrong and that I'm a sick creep, I must say:
When you hang a wolf on your wall, you're using the pelt. In order to get just the pelt, you need to do something with the bones and meat. What do you do with the bones? I don't care. Whatever the hell you like. What do you do with the meat? Eat it! It doesn't take a genius to figure that out.
This drawing is (c) Me.
If you want to put it in your group, note me for permission.

I wouldn't say they're good for hanging on walls, I'd say their pelts make some great clothing though.
They got really beautiful fur.

Same for the wolf population, but it all depends on where you live~! You see, population is a very political thing. Here where I live there's a concern about both deer and wolves in urban areas, whereas there is only deer concerns in country areas, and wolves killing poor people's livestock. In another area, it may be flip flopped. They might be politically endangered in your area and that may cause a "bottleneck" in your area, so I can see your concern. ^^

2. I personally find hyenas a very beautiful animal and I don't think everyone else will agree with your claim.
3. Who says eating them? That isn't even mentioned in the description! Furthermore, some people eat wolf meat because they don't have the amount of food other people have. In Mongolia, they need both the meat and the pelts to live.
4. You really need to work on your grammar and punctuation

I eat the meat too (Ussually just rabbits and squrrels) Usually it's about a wolf. They think that deep down inside, they're a wolf and when they see a dead wolf, fox, coyote or anything else of that sort, they feel threatend (The reason why they think they are an animal is beyond me. I soppose it's just spirit animals taken too far, even thought they choose their own. After all, my spirit animal is a bobcat but I don't act like one and make little mewing sound s like they make howling sounds)

I don't understand why they would - wolves in the wild see that all the time, it doesn't worry them in the least bit. In fact, wolves kill coyotes for fun and don't even eat the carcus. (I don't think I have an animal spirit, to be honest. I think I have a normal, human spirit.)

Oh, thats a relief.
I really need to stop watching animal planet before bed. It screws with your mind!
Anyway, as much as I hate hunting, I support controled hunts. I do however have a reputation for being a wild wolf freak, and Im proud of it. So going to a wolf hunt, might cause people to burn meh house down....
Oh well. I support the hunts, but dont really like the idea of going around and chosing lives to take by random. No other way to do it though....
And I am not a big fan of seeing dead things or things dieing.
But if they actually use the meat for something, It would just be doing justice to eat it, carry on the energy cycle.
Dont want to leave 'em rotting somewhere.
Its just amazing what people come up with.
PROBLEM: what to do with dead wolf.
SOLUTION: eat dead wolf!
....and "wolfjerky" was born!

I live in a rural area in which almost everyone goes hunting. I don't know one person here who just leaves what they get out in the forest. Maybe it's just the way people here are raised. Besides, if people can eat venison, steak, beef, why not eat wolf!

EchoTheWhiteWolf In reply to ThatOneKiddo [2010-06-22 00:27:17 +0000 UTC]
Yea thats some logic! Never thought of that too much....Stupid me! I just lived around wolves since I was really little, so eating them makes me feel weird.
I guess thats how farmers feel when they eat a pig they raised from birth.
Oh well....
And if you have livestock, or dont have a fence, then why NOT hunt.
I guess the reason I never fully understood hunting is because some animals such as wolves dont live in the city or the subborbs, and if the only place they live is in the country, and they are hunted there, where would they go if they felt it unsafe for them?
Im not flaming you or anything, Im just saying that thought always ran through my head when I was a kid, so naturally I've never even picked up a gun.

Exactly! It takes a long time for some people to realize what you've just said. The wolves that were introduced here aren't very afraid of humans. There have been reports of wolves in Yellowstone chasing people on motorcycles. They've been spotted in town, too, but that's kind of different. Our town is on a plateau, so when the prey gets scarce, the animals come down from the mountains to scavenge. I remember in 5th grade we had a bear cub wander into the playground and we went into a lockdown for the rest of recess. It's different where you live, I suppose. Here, taking hunter's education is like a right of passage.

Thanks! I aprecieate(sorry, cant spell too good) youre compliment. But I fail to see exactly what I have said to make you happy. What did I say?
I simply dont say anything about anyone unless I know all the sides to a story. The typical stereotype hunter is a person whos a triggerhappy redneck who loves the sight of spilled blood. That simply isnt true. Some people say I dont like wolves because I do like hunters. I always correct them by saying that I DO Love wolves because I understand Hunters.Or vise versa.
Where I live, well, no one really cares about topics like that. Just one of the bad things about living in a small town! But what is Hunter's Education, I've never really heard of that.
As for the yellowstone wolves, yes they are starting to not fear humans. That is pertially due to the tourists, and All animals in yellowstone are a bit out of line; but when a wolf is out of line the press knows they have a hot scoop on their hands. Elk are actually invading public areas and injuring or killing people in car accidents. Bears dont attack often, they mostly just invade public or private places looking for a den sight or an easy meal such as trash, pet food or the pets themselves. Wolves can do the same.
Knowing wolves, I observed(believe it or not) that wolves are proud and arrogant animals. Yes its true!
I always joke around by saying the wolves are "partying" or "celebrating" their return(yes, return) to yellowstone.
The truth is, everyone has to suck it up, leave nature ALONE, and help with the local wolf problem. Hunting is more of a solution to population issues so if it's a population problem, hunting is the solution.
If it's a "no fear of humans" problem, the solution is hunting and using the same methods they use with the wild bears when teaching them to fear humans. I one day hope to inspire people to learn about hunting and animals too. And I hope that one day we will use "Wolfdogs" or "Wolf spray" or other methods that are used on bears that can work just as well as wolves.
And as for the bear thing, Id be mad if that happened to me.
The only dangerous thing that came into our schoolyard that I can remember was a poisonous snake!

"And if you have livestock, or dont have a fence, then why NOT hunt." I've tried hard to convince people of this, but they just don't get it! Humans protect their property from other humans and I think the same should go for animals. Especially if your livelyhood depends on the animals you are raising.
Hunter's Education is a system that you have to go through in Idaho to get your hunting permit, and in the future, tags. They teach you the basics of hunting - disguising yourself, differenciating animals, where to make a clean shot, the ethical hunting code, how to hold your gun safely, the list goes on and on.
A lot of the animals in the park are familiar with humans. I think that's why people feel closer to the animals there. That creates a dangerous situation because people have been known to approach the bison and other animals and get badly injured.
Hunting also helps if there is an outbreak in disease. People think killing animals in any situation is cruel, but in this situation, would you rather let the animal not only suffer but spread the disease to other animals?
I think bearspray might work on wolves. It sure is powerful stuff, but I'm not sure if it would be as effective on a different species (excluding humans. We all know how humans react to bear spray and pepper spray. xD).
I don't think there's ever been a poisonous snake at the elementary school, but one of the teachers kept a tarantula and it got loose. It took about a week or so to find it and luckily nobody was bitten.

Thanks*
I dont own to much property, so I cant relate too good to anyone in that situation, But I do have common sense, and common sense says that if a predator comes into a yard: scare it away and if it keeps coming back, kill it. I really hate killing anything, but if my livestock was being threatened, well....I dont know what it is like to love a sheep, the only animal I've really grown attached to was a cat and a dog: the only two animals Ive ever really owned. But if it was my dog who was threatened by an animal, then I would take action, so I guess thats how people feel about their livestock.
Thank for explaining what hunter's education is!
And many people know of the dangers when visiting yellowstone. But when people come from all around the world the largest ntional park in the free world, you dont focus on the dangers. You try to take in as much as possible. Unfortunetly, the ever-present threat of wild animals crossing paths with humans seems to really get to people when they visit, making the animals more "familiar" towards humans. Its a darn shame.
Yes, In such a situation where a desease is present, hunting is the most practical solution. But it could be a bit risky, and a few uninfected individuals should be held "captive" until the desease passes, in case the worst happens.
And I think bearspray might work on wolves, but should be dumbed down a bit, for it may seem to not harm bears, but wolves are smaller and it may permanently blind them or cause sight damage.
A tarantula!? Really? Wow. My school pet was a guinea pig!And Im glad no one got bit, then EVERYONE would hear about it, and it would get ugly

And people think that all hunting is cruel...

Yea, animals are like us people: very unpredictable at times. And some times, even if they're being as clear as possible for them, we just dont get the message.
I used to think hunting was cruel, when I was like....sevan.
Yea If a wolf came snarling at me....Well I find some thing hard or big and swing it at them. If that didnt work Id try my very hardest to fight them off, because usually a wolf knows when he has a fight on his hands that he cant win. But if neither of that works....heck I'll run up a tree if I cant chase it off or do some damage. But wolves dont always snarl or whatever because thaey wish to kill you, sometimes they want you to go away so they can eat in peace or they think you are a threat to them and they want to chase you off. But in these times, it's best to not take any chances at all. Wolf behavior is so strange....
And I have had my share of crazy teachers, but none that strange.
It's always science or history teachers!

People here who go hiking in the forest have been treed before by wolves. It happens in Alaska, too. I can say one thing - if the wolf came towards me in the forest, I would definately get something to defend myself before it could attack.
My science teacher in 7th grade wasn't bad, but the geography/history teacher was about 79 years old and she was grumpy.
