Welcome to the Metro Bus Sign Series, where you will witness the bus signs combining the past with the present and the future. In this installment, we take a look at the Express Line 456. Dubbed as the Downtown Los Angeles - Downtown Long Beach via the I-110/I-405 Express, the 456 was revitalized for the first time in November 2019 after a 29-year absence. A lot has changed since July 1990: the Metro Rail System has grown exponentially, bus routes have come and gone, and w/ the resurrection of the 456, patrons can travel between Downtown Los Angeles and Downtown Long Beach.

The difference? The route and services of the 456. The original 456 via the SCRTD went on the Santa Ana Freeway [I-5] and the Long Beach Freeway [I-710], and it was like that since the days when it was 36F before the Great Renumbering. Another key difference is the service in the amount of buses taking their patrons. The original version operated 24/7; this version only has eight bus services: four heading north during the morning rush hour and four heading south during the rush hour. This was the result of the temporary shuttle bus line 860 & the popular response from patrons using it during the extended closure of the Metro Blue Line, which later reopened as the A Line ~Blue~ in November. UNTIMELY DEMISED: Thanks to the pandemic, this line was effectively killed off due to low budget that Metro is receiving, a few months after making it's triumph return.
