LOL! It awlays comes to mind when I see them..."When you can snatch the pebble from my hand..."
These things are SOOOOO easily spooked...
The trick shoulda been "when you can get this close to a grasshopper without it leaping away...."
Working distance here is less than 10 inches.

(I am so afraid of most insects and particularly spiders... It is the reason why I don't fave them but the photos are great, when I dare to look a little at them.)

LOL! If the numbers are low, Yes.
If you've ever been in a locust swarm situation though- not so much.
Numbering in the thousands, they can darken the sky at midday!
It's very unnerving to be in the midst of a L cloud - Everything, everywhere is grasshoppers!!!
They sure give ya quite the little whack when they fly into ya too.
