Description I noticed there's quite a few of these crawling around the area this year.
The Rough Strawberry Root Weevil (Otiorhynchus rugosostriatus) is one a many insects who's young eat the roots & damage a number of popular garden flowers as well as certain food crops.

One good point with these pests; their external wingcovers are fused together and they're unable to fly.

I found more than a dozen in less than half an hour, but most were found along our fence, so I think they're coming from next door neighbor's yard and their garden.

It's not just the flowers and crops that attract them. Luckily they seem to be partial to certain types of thistles and other weeds too. I found clusters of 3 or 4 in the roots when I've yanked the plant out.
