Lovely. Rogue? I thought that only Russians translators changes some characters names. In our version him lastname is Snegg (it sounds like Russian word wich means "snow") )))

Love Sev. He looks slightly arrogant here, and i like it
BTW, don't you know why they translated his family name as "Rouge"? Was it somehow justified?

Oh yes He is ! XD.
In French they're translated "Rogue" because "Rogue" means ---> altier, dΓ©daigneux, hautain, hargneux, insolent, mΓ©prisant, rude, suffisant, fier, froid. (in french).
In english these words means ---> haughty, disdainful, haughty, surly, insolent, contemptuous, rude, conceited, proud, cold.
^^.

That's why ? (Sorry to interrupt like this in this conversation) I've noticed that some other names have been changed as well... Like Hogwarts (Poulard) and the Houses. Their French names have some particular meaning, too?
(I'm curious ! I'm learning French and one of the things I do to practice is read HP in French !).

ah yes.
It's not "Poulard" it's "Poudlard"...
"Griffondor" means the same thing than "Griffindor".
"Serpentard" refers to the snake... in french, snake it's "serpent" and "serpenter" means a thing like... "sinuous", like a Snake.
"Poufsouffle" I don't know... The word doesn't really exist... but "souffle" it's breath. I don't know If this is the better translation.
"Serdaigle" means the same thing than in english... (serre d'aigle : in good french) ---> means (claw of Eagle... like RavenClaw). ^^

Ah! Oh, I see... Yeah, after I sent the comment I though I misspelled Poudlard! xD
In Spanish mostly everything kept it name...
Thank you for the information.

That's good. 'Cause in Russia they translated his name, and they translated it wrong. In English "scabby" means a nasty, vile person. An English-speaking girl said this meaning comes from French. Does it really?

the-evil-legacy In reply to satanaya [2011-01-16 19:41:58 +0000 UTC]
In french... the "Scabiose" is a malady. and the "Scabieuse" a flower.
and in latin "Scaber" means "rude, messy, grubby, grimy"
what is his name in Russia ?

satanaya In reply to the-evil-legacy [2011-01-16 19:48:59 +0000 UTC]
Oh ok then it must be taken from Latin. He IS vile indeed and he doesn't suffer any malady, according to the book.
In Russian it's Π‘ΡΡΡΠΏΡΡΡ (from "ΡΡΡΡΠΏΡΡ" - this very "scabiose"). Poor Scabior >.<
Thank you, you are great!
