That's what they should call the ships. The USS Squishable.

Awesome interpretations of those iconic crews!
Well, I'm going to be the one to say it:
Deep Space Nine a damn fine terrific series. I know the rap on DS9 is it "betrayed the ideals of Gene" and was more about conflict & war than space exploration. (If the latter is so bad, then I guess you didn't like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan or Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. ) But, DS9 was decided to be a war show and told really complex ongoing character story arcs that rewarded you for following episode after episode (Seriously. Garak. He was pretty cool.) Sure, they brooded but they were confronted with a ruthless new adversary that didn't simply go away at the end of an episode. Continuity matters, 'yo.
Anyway, yeah. Not trying to convince you to like the series. Just presenting my case for why I like it.

Thanks. I have a couple of friends who believe DS9 was the best Star Trek series ever so I've heard their arguments for why it's the best and why I'm a philistine for not liking it.
I don't really have a problem with the concepts. I think some of it was interesting. I even liked those episodes where the Cardassians retook the space station and there was a war. That was quite cool. Seeing Starfleet operate as a military and having all the ships fly around as a fleet was pretty badass. The first few seasons of that series I can't watch but when Worf joined it got a bit more tolerable. I think it's just the cast. I don't like the cast. They annoy me. If it had a different cast I may have loved it. I didn't really like the setting either. That space station was so depressing. I love the design of Starfleet interiors...but I could've maybe gotten over that if there was a different cast.
But anyway, that's just me. I have nothing against people who like it. I joke around like it's the worst series ever...but really I have nothing against it. It just does nothing for me.

Well since I've started drawing chibis like this I've noticed that people seem to respond to them more than my other stuff. So I sometimes think about maybe concentrating more on them. Apparently the way I draw chibis is unique so I could exploit that I guess. I've thought about maybe setting up a table at a con and drawing nothing but chibis. I think it might be good to think about making a comic done in this style too. I've thought that if I was able to get a gig at Marvel or DC I'd love to do a chibi comic. I think that'd be cool. They're easy to draw too so stress would be low.

You should definitely do something with your chibis man. I like your style as a whole but your chibis really stand out. I believe you can go far with your art style. Toys, cartoons, comics, all that good stuff.

The-G In reply to Chizel-Man [2012-06-10 04:58:30 +0000 UTC]
I've generally tried to downplay the chibis because I always felt like it was too easy or not 'real art'...but since people seem to like them so much I'm thinking I should just make peace with it and embrace it a bit more. I think I just need an idea for the style. Something original that would benefit from being done that way.

I saw this on your page, and had a total nerdgasm all over the place. I almost shouted 'OMFG STAR TREK AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!' in the middle of the library, thank you xD
I flippin' love everything about this, and each character looks so perfect I can't even begin to formulate a proper comment lol.
Captain Picard's expression FTW. Seriously just made me giggle like an idiot . He looks like he wants to punch someone out right now xD
I didn't get to see much of Voyager, but I saw every episode of TNG and the original growing up. I remember being so excited when TNG was about to come on - I was so invested in that show as a kid, it was kind of creepy xD. I wish they'd show repeats of it on TV somewhere [well, at least on basic cable... I have no idea what's on digital cable lol].

Well it's nice to know I can make someone embarass themself in a public place.
Thanks. I tried to draw them in character specific ways. I didn't want to just have generic poses. I wanted to try and capture their personalities.
I watched the original series growing up but it took me awhile to get into TNG. I think because it was a bit more cerebral. It's about values and morals. The original series you can watch as a kid because there's more fist fights and gun fights and space battles.

Picard's tugging on his shirt. He always does that when he's trying to look like he's got it all together. Seven, is the one where the 'tubby' look really looks funny! I LOVE Neelix, his colors really stand out against the uniforms. You did so very very well with the likenesses. So many Chibbi type things all look the same except the hair and clothes. These you can tell EXACTLY who they are the second you look at them.
Think Data is my favorite.

The-G In reply to chill13 [2011-10-11 06:08:38 +0000 UTC]
Thanks very much. I really wanted to try and get the likenesses right on this. Normally I fall into that trap of drawing everything the same and just changing the hair and clothes...but I wanted to try and get away from that on these. I guess because they're all wearing uniforms and there wasn't much to differentiate them.

You're Welcome! I really like Uhura. And Spock's expression made me giggle.
Although I really don't watch much of TNG,(I don't really like it) Worf looks pretty cool, and Picard looks as grumpy as ever
And the voyager cast looks awsome too. Neelix looks like he was hard to draw... And I like how Tuvok has the same expression as Spock's. It would have been really funny if you drew Janeway with a cup- no POT of coffee!

The-G In reply to Zelda-Chan202 [2010-12-22 23:36:50 +0000 UTC]
I love drawing Spock's expression. I guess because it's so different and has that hint of arrogance about it.
Well I'm glad you could still like the characters that you don't really like. That's a lot more open-minded than me. I don't like Deep Space Nine or Enterprise...that's why I didn't even bother to draw them.
Neelix was pretty hard. Just getting clear reference was tricky. And he changes his clothes so it was confusing trying to find an outfit for him. But when I realised most of his look would be done with colour I relaxed a bit. I deliberately made Tuvok's expression the same. I thought he copied Nimoy's style really well...so I thought I'd show their similarity in their expression.
COFFEE! Damn...I didn't think of that.

damn man, you even got scotty's hands-behind-the-back-to-hide-missing-finger pose right!
Also thank you for not using the trying-to-hide-shatner's-fatness outfit for kirk. That cross tie just made him more fat.
Like these, I do agree that you could have done enterprise, but I know why you didn't.
Also- Voyager? Really man?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
The-G In reply to kierena [2010-10-12 16:34:15 +0000 UTC]
Well he put his hands behind his back a lot so it seemed like the best pose for him.
I was actually tempted to put Kirk in his green top. Just because it's so outrageous. It's like he made a special top for himself so everyone would know he's the captain.
Yeah I guess I could've done Enterprise. Just to be a completeist...but I wouldn't have enjoyed drawing those characters. It would've annoyed me so I decided to just leave it be. As for Voyager...I'm not saying it's on par with the other two. I'm just saying that as far as Star Trek goes Voyager was very watchable. And Tuvok and The Doctor were very entertaining.

kierena In reply to The-G [2010-10-12 22:06:22 +0000 UTC]
you make a valid point on Voyager, I must say.
I do kinda see why you didn't do enterprise when you put it that way. The character's were good, just not as.....special as the other cast's were. That and they don't have quite as kick ass uniforms!

I'm glad. Sometimes I think I'm just rambling nonsense.
Yeah. That cast was missing something. I don't know what it was. It felt like they could've been good but they were just lacking in something. It definitely didn't help that they just wore those blue jumpsuits.

ARGH I know.
Although there's three DS9's that I did enjoy (because they were the most insanely funny things):When Quark had to become a woman in order to finish a business deal.
When the station's crew were challenged to a game of Base Ball with a bunch of Vulcans. (Funniest. Thing. EVER!)
TRIALS AND TRIBBLATIONS!

I've only seen about three or four full DS9 episodes. Trials and Tribbilations WAS good...I'll give them that.
I haven't seen those other two things though. I saw something about Sisko playing baseball once. I don't know if there were Vulcans there. I think he was just holosuiting by himself.
