Whoah, nice job making it look all gross and realistic. My dad's appendix actually bursted a few years ago, but he survived.

Very cool, and interesting.

My mom had her's removed, but they messed up a bit, and didn't find it at first, or something, and had to make a bigger cut than usual.

thanks for the kind words ...

this is actually the old-school, traditional appendix removal.

hope your mom is okay ... its kind of funny ... the amount of anatomical diversity that exists in the world. things are not always like the textbook.

I asked her, and it was that there wasn't anything wrong with her appendix after all, and it was her ovaries, so they had to make it bigger to get it.

She is okay, got a large scar, but it's barely visible anymore.

I recall seeing images in a text-book once of different types of appendixes and how it might look.

Rather awesome detail! Good work with the colours, and rather creepy to me since I've had my appendix out

thanks ... this is the open technique being illustrated as opposed to laparoscopic technique which is used most often today.

Whoah!
This is what it looks like!
I got my appendix taken out,
and I've always wondered what it was like from the outside...
Well, mine was Laparoscopic, so I guess it looked a little different.
I still enjoy this a lot, though.
Thank you.

the-infinite-opi In reply to pbnjxx [2010-02-03 08:32:12 +0000 UTC]

yeah, this is the traditional open surgery technique which is commonly used when the appendix has already ruptured.

and thanks for the view ... much appreciated !!!
