Thanks! free standing hairs are the best I like them a lot :3 I like hilighting with white on lighter colours or if I want something to be really shiny otherwise I won't do it either

Well, I know that I really need to work on backgrounds because I'm a bit bad at them, so I thought I'd give it a shot at trying to do a good one. I'm very nearly happy with it too!

Well I haven't been using it very long either, but I have a really good teacher (my friend ^DCZed ) but what I can suggest is find a picture you like and try to copy it as best you can (without tracing it) and mess around with the different tools and brushes to see what looks best for each thing.
For example, I like to use a soft brush for colouring eyes, but for colouring hair, skin and clothes I use the pen tool set to different amounts of feathering depending on the softness I want. and for lineart I use a hard brush about 2-5 pixels, so my best advice is just try things and see what you can come up with when you copy a picture you like.
Fan art is a good way to practise because there's usually lots of pictures to copy
