"Well? Did it work?" The excited mob boss all but rubbed his hands together with glee at the prospect. "Come on, don't keep me in suspense! I want to see that annoying heroine cut down to size at last!"

"Well, I know you were hoping to see her shrunk down to the size of a doll," replied the scientist, holding up a small white vial, "so it's sort of a good news and bad news scenario, I'm afraid."

As his eager customer struggled to get a closer look at the small sample tube, his ally unscrewed the lid and turned the container over, shaking it as though attempting to dump something out. The faintest of voices cried out from inside, but nothing appeared. "Well, what's the bad news?" demanded the businessman impatiently.

"Formula #8A didn't work precisely as intended," came the reply. The scientist, still unable to get whatever was inside the vial to come out, sighed and retrieved a small set of tweezers from his jacket pocket. "However," he went on, plunging the metal prongs inside and poking around for a few moments, "I think you're really going to like the good news. Hold out your hand."

Almost quivering with anticipation, the other man put his palm out, his eyes going wide as the scientist slowly withdrew the tweezers, holding his target tightly by one leg. The helpless, minuscule heroine, about the size of a long grain of rice, flailed about in frustration, screaming in a voice so faint it could barely be heard over the faint hum of electrical equipment in the background.

"As you can see," the mad scientist chuckled, "it seems the formula worked a bit too well..."
