"Okay, as we all know, during our last battle with Lord Evil, he doused Miss Lightning with a chemical that caused her to shrink."

"Yeah, we know, Doc," said the doll-sized heroine standing nearby on the table, her arms crossed in frustration. "It's been six really tedious hours already. Have you figured out how to make me big again or what?"

Captain Guardsman chuckled, unable to take his eyes off the miniature woman, still showing her displeasure at her predicament with a level of barely concealed anger, remaining steady even this long after the incident. "Come on, it's not permanent," the grinning hero said evenly, barely avoiding breaking out into open laughter. "Doc here says it'll wear off in a few days."

"I can't wait a few days!" wailed the little figure, stamping a booted foot in indignation. "I won't spend another minute being Superhero Barbie!"

At that, the three supers nearby couldn't take it any more and cracked up laughing. Miss Fury turned away and clutched her sides, while Lady Iris managed to contain herself after a moment and leaned in close. "This would be the perfect time to get a licensing deal with Mattel!" she managed to spout before breaking out into uncontrolled giggles.

On the table, Miss Lightning put her hands on her hips and fumed. "You wouldn't like it if this happened to you!" she muttered, but nobody heard her over their mirth.

"Okay, okay," said Doc, trying to get the meeting under control again. "Please, let's not make this any more difficult than it has to be. Miss Lightning has asked me to try fixing the situation with a counter-agent to Lord Evil's concoction. None of these can possibly extend the duration of the original any further, but it's hoped they'll lessen the effects. I'll begin with this one, which should reverse the compression significantly. Stand still, please."

He held out a small vial and squeezed a single drop of greenish liquid onto the ten-inch heroine's head. The drop flowed over her, spreading to encompass her entire body before seemingly evaporating. "I don't feel anything yet," she complained briefly, but then her eyes brightened as she started slowly growing. "Oh, wait, I think it's working! I'm getting bigger!"

The others all leaned in to watch. Indeed, the little heroine grew slowly to about two feet tall, then stabilized. As she slumped in disappointment, the effect reversed itself and she started shrinking. "Damn," she complained, "I was really hoping that would--wait, what's going on...?"

She didn't stop at ten inches this time, but kept right on dwindling. Miss Fury, again unable to contain herself, started laughing and pointing as the others looked on, eyes gradually widening as Miss Lightning shrank. In a matter of moments the already tiny heroine had collapsed to five inches high, then four, three...two...before finally, mercifully ending with her significantly less than an inch tall.

"Omigod," laughed Lady Iris, barely able to see the ant-sized figure on the table, "she's like a little bug now!"

Captain Guardsman, unable to resist, brought a fingertip close to Miss Lightning, as if unable to believe such a tiny thing could possibly be a superheroine. Obviously angry and frustrated, the barely visible woman let loose with a faint little spark, causing him to jerk his hand back in surprise. "Yep, it's her all right," he chuckled, grinning at her. "At least you aren't Barbie any more!"

"Sorry, I wasn't sure about that one," he told her, holding out another bottle, this one containing a thick pink liquid. He held it over her head, letting an enormous drop form, a blob big enough to completely cover her quarter-inch body. She looked up in frustration, obvoiusly doubtful, but held her ground.

"Don't worry," said Doc with a smile, even as that drop wavered tantalizingly overhead, "what's the worst that could happen...?"
