It is breath-taking! The stained glass windows and the rose in the forefront, are such deft artistic strokes!

D: Unfortunately, since I have neither seen nor heard "Don Giovanni" and I am bereft of a libretto, I have no idea what's going on there... thank you for sharing though! After I have gotten a little more familiar with "Giovanni," I will most certainly return to this!

I have only seen scenes form the Don Giovanni on YT.
But this film is quite excellent! I have the libretto, it is from the 20's!

Yes, it is very interesting visually, esp. the mysterious figures setting up the projection and seeing Hvorostovsky getting his makeup touched up. Fascinating imagery!

Yes, it was incredible! And he has such a visceral quality that adds a sense of risquΓ© to the Don and His servant! It is awesome how with trick photography, he could play both roles like that!
Here is an article on the film, it might help.:

I watched the last scene (which I understood, partially 'cause I've read the synopsis and partially because I can understand a little bit of the German subtitles and Italian singing), and it was amazing! I loved his use of facial expressions, especially while playing Leporello. I totally wish I could get the DVD and see if it has English subtitles! Thanks for the link!

I am so very joyed you liked, Ruth!
Yes, Hvorostovsky is such an awesome actor as well as singer! He add such depth and wit to the Don and his wily servant, his flirting was very risquΓ©. And his horror is acting lesson to behold! He has such an awesomely expressively eyes.

Yes! Very expressive eyes! His acting skills are incredible-- it makes the whole performance better. I hate it when a singer can't act!

Yes, he has the most alluring eyes I have yet to see in any one, except for Sylvester Stallone.
I am obsessed with his portrayal of Rambo.
Yes, it is awful when a singer cannot act! Are you familiar with opera baritone Nathan Gunn? He is great actor as well singer.

I believe I may have seen some of Gunn's work... Personally, I love Stallone in the "ROCKY" movies, as well as "Judge Dredd" and "Demolition Man". Those movies are great!

Did you see him as Papageno in "The Magic Flute?"
Stallone was incredible in Rocky, I do not believe I have seen in "Demolition Man" or "Judge Dread".
I will look for them though!
Have you seen him in Rambo?

I think that was the video you showed me, yes. Those are both fantastic movies! I did see Rambo, and I liked it quite a bit.

Yes, Gunn was so sweet and funny, no? And he is doing the same role this month at the MET! I wish I could see him as the madcap bird catcher!
I could go on and on about Rambo...
But I will see these movies you told me about!

I'll warn you, "Demolition Man" has some swearing, and "Judge Dredd" could have some bad language as well, but they're both really great movies!

Yes, most action have swearing, but it is keeping in with realism. I think I might have seen Judge Dread...?

That seems to be the case... Judge Dredd is about a futuristic cop/judge who gets framed.

I think I will quite like this! Stallone is a brilliant actor and director, but he gets so little credit for it.

Yes, he writes, acts and directs so brilliantly! Witnessing his riveting portrayal of tortured heroes and everyday men trying to survive in such a relentless society is stunning, and his fierce combative skills and discipline are quite mind-blowing!

And his Rambo is iconic and epic!
