So, a while back Toby updated Undertale, right? Different color blue, more dialogue... Gaster making it into the character roster? And I thought, man, meta-speaking, what does it mean? So, here's my theory because I overthink everything: The reason Gaster was finally recognized as a character in the game was because of US. Because of what OUR thoughts that we poured into about Gaster. Every story, every picture, every theory, be it dadster, or the missing bro, the lost colleague, or even the mad scientist, every THOUGHT that we made pertaining to Gaster helped him become realized. Y'know what I'm saying? It' something small in the line of other small things but it's THERE.And, if this is true, than Toby is a fucking GENIUS in being able to to incorporate the fandom like this, already planning ahead, somehow knowing exactly this was how it was going to happen and making it fit perfectly into lore. SADFGHJKL: kudos, my man. Kudos. And it just DOES something to me--because I myself am emotionally invested into this character--that all of us including myself could me the reason Gaster is being inched closer back to reality.
Sorry, sorry, I'm kinda ranting now, I just wanted to gave a little backstory to the reason I made this

Well, I'm currently at it, but it's far from finished.
It's an AU I created called Mendertale and it's focussing on Gaster as the main Undertale-character.

i thought your named looked familiar, you replied to my comment on one of your art covers for it. i was the one who said "why do i keep going down rabbit holes" if that helps (doubt youd remember sommething that small but screw it)

It's the only Mendertale-art I with a 'tunnel' in so far, if you're not counting the pages
And I was asking why you do go 'down' rabbit holes if Sans, Papyrus and Frisk are actually going upwards towards the light. XD

not gonna lie, didnt realize the tunnel on the art itself.
if i remember right the INTENTION of the rabbit hole comment was refering to me finding new AUs, comics, fan art whatever and getting sucked in further down the story/lore aka "the rabbit hole" (also mainly kinda scolding myself because in my need to do stuff like that, i end finding a decent amount of dead ends that leave me "welp.... that was pointless and ill never get closure.... fk me")
just... lost/dead/discontiuned media is like a BIG pet peeve of mine, seeing some project that someone put X amount of time into... just... well for lack of a better term "vanish into the void"... breaks me everytime

I totally misunderstood here, becasue I didn't know the expression. I'm speaking English fairly often, but some slang and expressions still mean not that much to me or I misunderstand them. Sorry about this.
Well, I sure hope that won't happen to me, but I doubt that it will.
Mendertale is a very personal thing, because it's my way of dealing from certain events from my very own life.
I have been through quiet some s**t during the last three years and this is my way to deal with it.

I bothered to translate the Wingdings into English and, after reading the description, it all makes sense. ☠⚐❄ ☞⚐☼☝⚐❄❄☜☠. Not Forgotten. Because of the way you presented this, and in "Coming Home", a million songs are running through my head. I'll make a short list for which songs match up with 3 characters: W.D. Gaster, Papyrus, and Sans. I'll post it in my journal log later. Thanks for making this art, keep it up buddy!

I LOVE YOUR THEORY SO MUCH I actually thought of this before and I think yes this is it!!! We're the ones trying to rescue Gaster from the void, making him more and more real with each fan-made story.

So hes a kind of tulpa. At first he barely existed in the game, or outside of it, but as more of us imagined and obsessed he began to manifest until now he actually exists as.more then a joke in a hidden room and a few.lines of dialogue. And with the patch his existence in his original world even strengthened

That's a cool way of looking at it. Thinking about it, there are a lot of theories out there on who Gaster was. Wonder if we'll ever get further answers.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought this; you put it perfectly into words and your art. Uff, right in the feels.
You did such a good job of capturing the contrast of bleakness and despair with brightness and hope (is that too cheesy? idk but that's how this makes me feel). Like it reminds me of the scene towards the end of Fellowship of the Ring where Sam is sinking into the depths of the river before Frodo's arm reaches down to pull him up.
And I'm absolutely pretending one of these arms is attached to me, ahaha. This is officially one of my favorite pieces of art. ;_;

Maybe, maybe not. I mean, stuff with Gaster was available in the game before, it's just that now Toby made it accessible without having to modify files (plus changed some dialogue a bit). Maybe Toby planned this from the beginning, maybe he changed his mind recently because he saw fan's reaction, or maybe it's something that he didn't want to implement fully in the game because he felt it didn't fit. Knowing Toby, we will never know what his intentions are as he will forever keep dodging the questions, lol.
