I love this, just trembling on the edge of succumbing to temptation.  You just know in the next breath, Steve is going to snap and crush his lips against Bucky's.  This is like a breath held in anticipation.

OMG, this enchants me! I so wanted to see them kiss in the movie! They're so cute together! And I'm sure that neither can resist each other...!

You are so welcome! And yes, I don't understand why they're not canon! I notice that Steve is often coupled with Tony Stark, but Steve has so much history with Bucky...! Whether they're friends or sweethearts, they clearly love each other...! They're just so sweet together!

I must admit I was like: O_O O_O O_O really?!!? about Steve/Tony being the most common ship for Steve at first, but it does kinda make sense, because it was the Avengers movie that got most people (me included) into the fandom in the first place, and Bucky wasn't in that movie. Although I still didn't get why Steve/Tony rather than Steve/any other Avenger until I rewatched the movie with Steve/Tony in mind. It's because they fight so much at first, lmao... they interact the most with each other, because they're being pitted against each other so that their relationship can be shown to grow.

But yeah... it's a far cry from what Steve and Bucky feel for each other in canon. So once I read a Steve/Bucky fic I wasn't going back to reach Steve/Tony, if I'm honest. For me Steve/Bucky was much more the sort of dynamic I normally ship when it comes to my fandom OTPs XD . I mean, come on, I ship Kirk/Spock... I like the idea of best friends who are inseparable and love each other to bits in the canon source material!

I agree with you. And I can understand why some people would think that Tony and Steve would go well together, but I still see it as typecasting: they're foils, so their personalities initially bounce off each other and come to complement each other. I don't understand, though, why some people seem to think that romance requires both parties to dislike each other at first and them come to appreciate each other. That just seems like the formula of the typical chick-flick, and we know how realistic that those are.
It is such a far cry from Steve/Bucky; they actually seem more realistic to me as a couple in that they've been good friends for a long time and then the romance blossoms between them. That's why people fall in love and want to marry each other, not because it's a relationship based mainly on hormones but because they truly care about each other.

Yeah, but the reason the thing with the 'sort of hate each other at first' trope exists so much in books and movies is because a realistic relationship dynamic can come across as boring to the readers

Hehe, but yeah, obviously I agree with you on the reasons why Steve/Bucky work better together (for us anyway). They really care for each other so deeply. I mean, in the films they already love each other. It's just about adding the romance.

Yeah, that trope has gotten old for me. I'm far more interested in realistic relations; Steve and Bucky definitely have that. And yes, all that's missing for them is the romantic element since they obviously already love each other.

I would like to see where all of these initially antagonistic couples end up, since they seem more like they are lusting over each other than in love with each other.

I do have a thing for couples in lust fic. Like, I do like the idea of Steve Rogers/Jack Harkness... but not as 'love til the end of time'. More like a bit of a crush and lust etc. - at the end of the day Steve's heart belongs to Bucky.

(So of course I wrote that fic, but the Steve/Bucky was more sort of an implied in the future thing. I should write a sequel to make it explicit).

I started reading Steve/Tony, but after reading about 2 or 3 Steve/Bucky fics I knew that was my OTP for Steve. Kind of annoying, since there's so much less fic and art for Steve/Bucky, but yeah, they just make more sense to me, because of what you said... they clearly love each other in canon.

And I do think they have stuff they disagree on and argue about of course, but behind all of that is deep love. With Steve and Tony there was arguing in the film without the love underlying it. I can see how that can be built up in a fic later of course, but when the love is already there in the canon... eeeeeeek... I can't help it. They're my Avengers OTP XD.
