Calvin Mint was a well-respecting big-city lawyer, known for defending the weak and rubbing the wicked up the wrong way. Which was how he found himself in witness protection. Suddenly forced to flee Cedar City, he ended up as a small-town repairman in the Texan streets of Sundown. It was here in Sundown that he found himself attracting the attention of a whole new group of troublemakers, unable as he was to stand aside and let good people get trampled over. After being hogtied and dragged to the desert for fighting the gunslinger who murdered the sheriff, Calvin had to maintain the illusion that he’d died out there in the dust, to protect the woman he loved from reprisal. He came back in disguise as a drunken barfly. As such, he was able to hear stories of the town glory days. The last time ruffians had come into town and killed the sheriff, many years hence, a masked man rose up to protect the people. After peace was restored, the masked hero was never seen again. He became known in legend as The Lost Rider. Calvin Mint took up the mantle. Covering his face, he saddled up and drove the gang out of town with his trusty twin six-shooters. This time however, The Lost Rider stayed – protecting the people he’d come to call family. Revealing himself to the people as Calvin Mint, seemingly returned from the grave, the town made him sheriff. But when needed, he’d put back on his trusty mask and ride into the wilderness to deliver justice wherever it was needed. Though he never returned to his first home of Cedar City, tales of exploits made their way back in the form of thrilling dime-store novels.
