Description For some reason they had to separate the SP 4449 from the rest of the train somewhere near Chicago last night, and here it is coming to join back up with the steam engine.

I don't think I have ever seen one train almost wipe out as many foamers as this one managed to on the stretch between Michigan City and Niles. Couldn't keep them off the tracks...

Steam engine? What steam engine! LOL
And what a motley collection of carriages, Can you provide any more detail on that particular train please? Was it a one-off or a regular occurrence.
Many thanks.
David

I had to read that a few times. SP 4449 is in Michigan City?! I'd so be there if I'd known that...

Ah, wow I'm silly, I didn't read the title fully...it would've answered my question! Thanks for the response though.

They had to split up the train because 4449 was deemed too big and too wide to be allowed to go in the Chicago Union Station. Also there was something about a bridge that 4449 wasn't allowed to cross. So they split up the train and would reassemble it in Michigan City

It wasnt really CUS, there was some bridges in Englewood, where the train couldnt fit.

Really? on the 4449's website it stated that the 4449 was too wide and too tall for CUS.

The NS problem was a last minute screw up, the plan was for the train do take some kind route around CUS, and join the cars and Amtrak engine, then go down the Chicago line, but it ended up going down the IHB light.
