Bitter wind through your hair, on your face as you look, bravely
Into the future.

Behind you a sun sets; in front, in the inconceivable distance
Another rises, illuminating an endless, winding road stretching away
Through a deserted landscape
Scattered with the occasional forest, hill and stream
Like events you’ve planned but not yet experienced
Everything else is
Unknown, until you take that step
The mountainside at your back fades into
Darkness, oblivion
Soon you’ll have no choice but to
Tumble
Helplessly
Into whatever lies beyond
This moment is your one chance to reflect on
Where you are, where you’re going
Teetering on the
Edge of the precipice
Stirring together an enticing mixture
Of anticipation and dread
Knowing only that, this time, everything will change.
Do you feel ready?
No one ever does.
You lift your gaze to the newly rising sun,
Take a deep
