In 1889, Thomas Worsdell introduced his J class compound singles for work on the Newcastle - Edinburgh expresses. These would be rebuilt as conventional engines across 1895/96 and would end up working trains between Leeds, York, Scarborough & Hull. The would be withdrawn during 1920/21.Sprites by
