Let's be honest: it can be really tricky bringing humor to a tough situation like this. It was a massive deal to the brony fandom, but we do understand that there are complex factors which must be taken into account when it comes to running a business as large as Hasbro. To be honest, it was the nicest and most apologetic cease and desist letter I've read (and I've read a particularly harsh one from a gaming company to a brony). We don't like it, but they let jananimations keep the bronies documentary song and Don't Mine at Night, so that's a start. Anyways, enjoy the comic! ~Boardgamebrony

Oh I've seen it. I knew about all of this, I just wanted to know why the words "Cease and Desist" were on the back of the scroll.
In a joking manner, of course, I KNOW they're they so that people will get the joke, but I'm asking why would they be on the back if Twilight's supposed to be reading it.

Button Mash, a background pony from "Hearts and Hooves Day" and character given focus by JanAnimations, was recently "killed off" by a Cease and Desist. In other words, Jan received a C&D from Hasbro when they figured out he's been using Button as character without any permission and took off all his videos from his YouTube channel that has anything to do Button Mash. It was sad day for the fandom and it enraged a crap ton of fans.

Because the Button Mash videos made by the CMC-tumblr guy were taken off the internet by Hasbro, they sent a cease and desist to Button Mash's creator.
And apparently that makes a pretty awkward encounter with his stalker.

Lawyers only look for buzzkill in exchange for money as I rant it out in my journal. They should consider working for Apple Inc instead, Tim Cook would pay them MORE than Hasbro would offer.

Why I don't disagree with you your facts are a little off.
While it does boil down to money the real reason companies stop people from making stuff with their IP is because if they don't the risk losing their copy right.

Rafflessian, you insult the writers of the show that somehow got thousands of men to watch My Little Pony. They must be doing something right. They might stray from time to time, but they are doing something right.
From what I understood from reading a copy of the letter that was posted, there are people from law firms roaming the web looking for stuff like these animations that might cause problems for the company. They are looking out for the company's interests, but the company is not directly involved unless it becomes necessary. But it is not about the money. It is all about the rights to the property, and thanks to how poorly-written United States copyright laws are, they need to defend their rights to sole use of that property or lose it altogether. So please give the company a break, or at least the benefit of the doubt in this incident.

mktoon is a VP at Hasbro and might have had a hand in getting them to allow some of the videos (like "Don't Mine At Night") to go back up. Overall, the C&D happened back in March, so it is pretty much handled. You may put away your anti-corporate pitchforks and torches now.
