This is a commission for White Hawk, of Twilight Spakle after being transformed into a dragon. I tried to go a bit of a different direction than most drawings with it, as well as experimenting with some new background techniques. The lighting is far more complex than in most of my drawings up to this point, for example, the shadows are the correct blue that would be filling in from the sky, rather than just pure black. It's amazing what you learn when you actually study these things, haha
You can also see that I used "tilt shift" in photoshop to blur the bottom 25% or so of the drawing, giving it a somewhat more realistic appearance.
The ocean and sand textures are from cgtextures.com, and I used this wallpaper for come composition and color ideas for the background. I wasn't able to find the original source of this wallpaper (original photographer, for example), and if someone does find it please let me know.

Okay, first off, before I start this critique: Drawponies, I am a huge fan of you, I think you're amazing at drawing, and a video from you taught me the basics of what I know so I'm appreciative of it. Now onto it.
I've never seen twilight as a dragon, and I think the idea is very unique. The background is very detailed almost as if you can go walking on it.The shading in my opinion could have added more tones. Other than that, it looks like it came right from the show itself. Very though out and I can see all the effort put into it! Very good!

Thank you for pointing that out about the shadows
Value (the level of lightness or darkness in the image) is something that I'm studying intensively at the moment. I keep using too small of a value range in my drawings (muddy grays rather than clear light and dark values). I've simply never worried about it until now, because in the show they couldn't give a crap about value (for the most part).
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it in the future, and thanks for the compliments as well

As much as I would love to give a critique, I don't think I'm qualified enough as an artist to do so. I'm so glad I was able to watch a bit of this on Live Stream. That was epic. I know I will so be trying to get to more of these. Twilight Sparkle looks great finished and hopefully I get to stay to watch the whole thing next time. Great job
