Description This was an in-class example for my Saturday stained-glass class. 9" by 12", copper-foil method, done with scrap glass, my own pattern (I avoid using ready-made patterns).

Original available.

I apologise again for not being able to be on DA much these days to comment on deviations and send thank-you notes for favourites. As we enter the autumn, things tend to get hectic at the gallery, and I find myself with very little free time. So I'm basically just answering comments and stuff. Sorry.

Thank you so much! I was lucky on this one - I was kind of scraping the bottom of the glass bin to find the right colours, and there was just enough. Guess I'd better go get some more glass soon!

Thank you very much! I've really been enjoying Saturdays at the gallery - nice break from painting to do a bit of stained glass. I have my fingers crossed that someone will get this one this weekend.

I'll keep mine crossed for you Chris, i would love to see you attempt something religious some time, although i'm not a great follower i can't walk past a church without looking at the windows

I have a friend who does church windows - I guess I ought to check them out. They're very hard to do in copper-foil because the weight of anything that big tends to pull itself apart.

Thanks very much, C. I'm starting to get more comfortable with the glass since I've been teaching the Saturday class. I think working with it regularly kind of helps. ^_^

Thank you very much! ^_^ As stained glass goes, I'm pretty much a novice, but I thin I'm starting to get a better eye for patterns and a better hand at cutting. Geez, it takes a lot of practise...

theancientofdays In reply to Martywolf92 [2008-09-25 09:54:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! It's pretty hard to get very complicated with glass - if there's too much detail, it kind of gets clogged up with solder, and that takes away from the image.
Oh, I shall.

Thank you! I had a little extra glass lying around after a project, and the brown looks like a tree-trunk to me. I'm going to miss that glass - it's pretty hard to find.

^_^ We had a fellow not far from here who lived in a neighbourhood where there were strict rules about how and what you could do to fix up your home. So he painted it with huge purple polka dots. Since it wasn't against the rules, they had to let him keep it that way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to missbeautifool [2008-09-25 10:07:46 +0000 UTC]

Well, I teach at my gallery and at the local museum - they don't really have art in the schools here anymore. But I learned stained glass when I was in school - I can't believe the teacher allowed teenagers to have glass and hot soldering irons!

missbeautifool In reply to theancientofdays [2008-09-25 18:55:15 +0000 UTC]

aha . it's a bit dangerous? well, art is disappearing anyway... like art in gender ...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to missbeautifool [2008-09-27 10:04:35 +0000 UTC]

Quite dangerous, actually. I regularly cut myself on the glass, burn my hands on the chemicals and roast my fingertips on the soldering iron. But they say we must suffer for our art.

Thank you very much! I think keeping the pattern pretty simple seems to help. I didn't have enough different greens to do "grass", but I thought it worked okay with the ambers.

jadedlady [2008-09-24 17:21:38 +0000 UTC]

It's really pretty! I particularly like the greens...

ps - I can't believe you're letting "real life" interfere with your dA activity.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theancientofdays In reply to jadedlady [2008-09-25 10:00:14 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much! I like the greens, too, but I'm almost out now - I guess I'll have to make a trip to get more glass soon.

Well, I like DA, but it's hard to answer messages because the page keeps trying to reload. And it'll be pretty solid work from now through the holidays - I figure if I keep working steadily, I should be able to stay on top of it.

Well, I guess it's better to have too much to do than not enough. My biggest exhibition of the year is less than two weeks away D: and I'm hosting a show on the 25th of October. Plus I have another show on the 18th and 19th. At least the holiday orders are starting to come in already - I think people are trying to plan ahead, thank goodness.

Why, thanks. I hope this one gets sold quickly - my windows are starting to clog up with stained glass...
