For my Mother, for putting up with me for 18 years and making sure I survived long enough to get to college... :3Well, this was actually finished sometime around mid-August, BUT since I'm such a terrible procrastinator and got it done IN THE CAR on the way to COLLEGE there was no time to scan it before I gave it to her. So I finally got my brother to scan the pic for me, and here it is!
The gryphon is a great-horned owl/black panther combo, and I actually really like how the colors blend. Stripes, bars, and general mottled fluff are soooo fun to do! Also, I tried something weird with the perspective here, and I'm not really sure how well it came out...
Oh well, I tried, and at least it doesn't look hideous. As always, Faber-Castell pencils, Portfolio pastels, and India Inks for the pretty pretty sky. Yay swirly blues and purples!
And of course white gel pen for that added sparkle... Enjoy!

Beautiful! I love how the body "blends"( I don't know ow to explain it) in the night. And the perspective of the wings is perfect!

I really like the shape of the diurnal raptors (to use your terms, how they're all built for speed and such.
Owls do derserve to be drawn more, though, so it's good to hear your working in another one.

Thanks! I was trying to get that "wee hours of the morning" feeling; I didn't feel like adding a great spectacular moon, 'cause I kinda liked the dusk and the stars all by themselves.

I mostly love the high wind and clouds before a storm, not the rain so much. I don't mind it, but it's the wind that really does it for me.
