Description CALEB ARENTZ:
An American Meda-fighter who works at a Medabot Maintenance and Customization shop based out of Florida. Getting his start at a young age, Caleb always had a deep fondness for older Medabots, specifically KBT models. However, due to their scarcity, his father was unable to purchase him one. Instead, his father surprised him by purchasing him an odd FOX Type Medabot from the short lived Fortunes series based off the Agadama/ A-Gedama model. The two quickly grew to be fast friends and a capable team. When not working in his shop repairing Medabots or Kitbashing custom parts, Caleb enjoys robattling around town with the hopes of going league, deep sea diving, urban exploration, and generally prowling around with his friends.

TOGI:
FOX-TYPE MEDABOT
FEMALE
Togi was Caleb's first Medabot and as such has the longest history with him. Somewhat full of herself, Togi has a rather strong sensitivity in regards to the large round belly that was a part of the Fortunes product line, and is quick to become flustered and catty towards people who point it out. Despite the prideful and braggadocios front, Togi is a rather shy Medabot and prefers to remain steadfast to her owner's side; grateful of his friendship as reassurance despite her self consciousness. Togi is styled after a Mermaid and a Kistune to create a "Water Fox" motif and is specialized in laser based attacks and accuracy as well as aquatic combat.

DRACOMETA
DRA-TYPE MEDABOT
MALE
In Japan, Robattling is about the fight; the skill and the teamwork between Medabot and Medafighter. In America, Robattling is focused more on the thrill and the spectacle, favoring two on two to three on three matches per person in a knock down battle of power and skill. As such, team battles are far more common in the states, and the closer to the more urban city of Orlando that Caleb and Togi ventured, the more times Robattles saw the pair fighting at a disadvantage against more than one opponent. While Caleb showed promise in tactical coordination, Togi's effectiveness was greatly hampered outside of water, and obvious weaknesses began to arise while in battle. To correct this and offer him the chance at going pro, Caleb purchased a brand new DRA type Medabot from an Orlando shop. Dracometa is a soft-spoken, respectful, and honorable Medabot who specializes in aerial bombardments and fire based attacks, with an odd personality quirk. Despite never having been activated in Japan, Dracometa has a very strong affinity for the culture and is well versed in the history of the land, and has a near obsession with dragons: being thoroughly bemused by the fact he is one. Unlike the more brash Togi, Dragometa is very dutiful and jumps at every order he's given with an otherworldly dedication; that is however, until he doesn't view a fight as being fair. When fighting an opponent without long range weapon, Dracometa will become extremely apologetic towards his Medafight and instead engage in melee combat. This is not something his is particularly talented at, and irritates Caleb to no end. That said, when an opponent shows a dishonorable or otherwise distasteful method in robattling, Dracometa will dogmatically peruse them until they have been defeated; using every (respectable) means at his disposal. Togi and Dracometa get along relatively well while and function very effectively as a team.

BUTO
KBT-TYPE MEDABOT
MALE
After one of his deep sea dives with Togi, Caleb discovered a strange Beetle Medal that had long been lost to the world. Unlike modern medals, the medal lacked a clean golden finish and looked almost more stone-like in appearance. Curious to see if the medal worked, and optimistic about the potential acquisition of a third member to allow him to qualify for the local leagues, Caleb sought out the oldest Medabot he could find, in the hopes the medal would be compatible. A lead from a customer lead him to a shrine where an original model KBT type had been abandoned and since decorated to serve as a statue/ decoration to some of the local children who came to the shrine. The arm parts had been nearly completely destroyed, the leg parts were nearly entirely eroded, the tinpet was worn out, and the shoulders had been decorated with roman candles. Talking to the owners, the old Medabot was given to him and raced back to his store. For the next three weeks, Caleb spent every moment he could attempting to repair the derelict Medaparts and Tinpet and fabricating replacement parts for the parts which had been destroyed by the elements. In the end, Caleb kitbashed a KLN type arm to the left arm with modifications to operate better with a KBT type, a rocket barrage set of shoulder armor modeled after the way the fireworks looked, and styled the legs and right arm after KWG parts while salvaging as much as he could from the original parts. After three attempts with the tinpet rejecting the old medal, the old machine powered to life revealing a rather naive, good natured, and gung-ho Medabot which was affectionately dubbed Buto. Upon his activation, Buto was relatively curious about things around him, and because of the stories Caleb had heard from the World Championship about Space Medafighter X and Ikki, Caleb became increasingly convinced that the ancient Medal inside of Buto would grant him the same power (though with no real understanding of how it worked himself). With Dracometa and Togi soon voicing excitement at the possibility that Buto somehow possessed some sort of ancient knowledge, the unsuspecting Buto got swept up in the hype himself and began to believe that he somehow did possess some kind of ancient wisdom or power. With everyone excited by the idea and wanting to test out what the newest member of their team could do, Buto excitedly agreed to take on Togi and Dracometa at the same time to observe the true nature of this ancient power. The robattle lasted a total of 56 seconds involving Buto attempting to do every random thing that popped into his head (while his eyes were closed) and resulted in his near immediate defeat and shattering of any idea that the medal's power was directly manifested through Buto. Specializing in barrage attacks, close range combat, and possessing the strongest armor and defense of the three, Buto quickly adapted to his role in the team and became fast friends with everyone. However, because of his old design and heavy armor; despite Caleb's attempts to latch onto the speed of the KWG-Type, Buto is lacking in speed and has poor accuracy at range as the four machine guns on his left arm lack the ability for precise aiming.

Plus all the characters who just showed up to replace, rather obviously, other characters! And the New Medabee really didn't do it for me.

Amazing art and some great writing, but I''d like to point something out:

A-Gedama/Agadama is a Tanuki type. The FOX type you mentioned is Foxuno/A-Burage (medarot.meowcorp.us/wiki/A-Bur… )

EDIT: I just read this better and realized you did that on purpose. Sorry for the unnecessary nitpick.

Comments on DA are so rare now adays that it's pretty apparent that if someone is taking the time to talk to you and they're not obviously a troll, then they're trying to be kind or helpful! Again, I'm flattered you took the time to read everything! XD and I'm really glad you enjoy them! I was thinking, since I had so much fun drawing these guys I might do more Medabots some time!

Oh, you should. Medabots isn't the most popular of it's genre but it's still a good franchise, so new art of such quality is very good. I'd certainly be willing to watch for that.

I can agree to that, but trust me when I say this flattery is genuine. You manage to make medabots that look faithful to the original designs, something I can't really do without going into pitfalls, so I can appreciate your works.

Oh man, as a kid I was NEVER happy with the way my OC looked. And I tried for YEARS to make characters to use as OCs. Some of the originals were just Archbeetle and Metabee parts kinda fused together, then it evolved to just jumbled knock-off Metabee, and I was always this kinda Ikki looking character with different hair. I got so fed up of not being able to come up with a character that I felt would be worthy of the show, that I abandoned hopes for years. I feel there's no small amount of irony in the fact that it took all the abilities of my adult brain to make OCs that I would've liked to have as a kid!

Astrall99 In reply to TheApprentice225 [2018-02-08 21:39:07 +0000 UTC]

Holy cow, you got no idea how much I relate to what you said. I even got into some fights over the designs due to how close they were and eventually gave up. Even now, I'm kinda iffy on my current ideas just cause of how little practice I got with Medabots.

Also, idk why but your design proportions kinda hint at Medarots 3. Did you play that game by any chance?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheApprentice225 In reply to Astrall99 [2018-02-08 22:11:54 +0000 UTC]

lol I share you pain wholly! And the moment I inked everything my brain started thinking of "upgrades" for them or tweaks I could've made only after I inked and uploaded them.

lol no actually. What I did was I found a picture of a medabot from the show that was as large as I wanted to make the pictures on the paper (it was a picture of Warbandit) and I look a ruler, measured every ounce of detail and proportions, and transferred that over to the paper to use as a framework  to base my guys around.

Well, at least it's easier now to do these than before (at least for me, even if it took almost a month).

Holy what? That's absolutely amazing! I use other bots as sources of inspiration myself but using that sort of detail is awesome!

XD I figured it would be the most effective way of helping me get the proportions in order! Anime always gives me a bit of trouble.

Well, fan bots would be more appropriate to say. I must've drawn so many by now but the best one so far is my recent redesign of an angel type of mine, Ariel.

I relate to that a lot

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Astrall99 In reply to TheApprentice225 [2018-02-09 16:28:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, I shouldn't be spoiling but I think it's fine if I tell you.

Ariel is mainly a support oriented medabot, using her head part as a Medaforce stealing part, her right arm as a heal and her left as a repair (if you played any of the games, think of her as the token angel type but bipedal). What sets her apart from, let's say, Wonder Angel, is her medachange, where she turns from bipedal support to flying shooter with minor support in a defense increasing medapart (think Papyrak with his attack buff)

I've seen the one drawing you did of her, and I love the pattern on the stockings where it looks like the buffer wheel from a computer. I think that's a cool little detail! Is she a part of a larger team?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Astrall99 In reply to TheApprentice225 [2018-02-12 17:45:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah she is. I'm still working out the kinks in the team but it's composed of either a devil type or a ninja type as the primary damage dealer and a cat girl type as the debuffer. The main theme of this team is balance in which when one teammate is forced to do one role the whole team switches dynamics to keep their synergy going.

I really like your team and the design of your medabots, they really looks like if they belonged to the show/games! I especially like Togs, she's very original and well designed! Since you have a full team of 3, I think you should give one of your medabots a support function of some sort, it would make your team more balanced, flexible, and more powerful overall.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

TheApprentice225 In reply to AltairSky [2018-02-08 20:44:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh my goodness, thank you so much! Coming from a Medabot powerhouse like you I consider this the highest compliment that I could receive! lol I'm really flattered you like Togi! If I gave any of them a support ability I think I'd give it to her! Though I hope you'll forgive my lack of knowledge, but what are some of the support abilities? I've only ever seen the first (and part of the second) season of the Medabots TV show, and never actually played the game.

btw, I was curious about the three Medabots I've seen in your gallery. I hope you'll forgive me that I've not had time to get too far in your comic yet, but are they a part of your main character's team? If they are and when I have additional funds, when I can commission you I think I'd love to have them meeting and interacting with one another!

AltairSky In reply to TheApprentice225 [2018-02-08 21:50:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes she's the one that's more suited at support!
Here is a list of things they can do to support
- defend, they use a shield sometimes a physical shield like megaphant, sometimes a forcefield like neutranurse did in the show
- scout, they have radar to increase the damage and hitting chance of other teammates
- charge, they can increase the speed of a teammate
- heal, they can heal or regenerate a lost medapart

My medabots are not a real team, they're mostly medaparts compatible with my original medal. My medabot, Hummer, has a hawkmoth medal (suzumega in japanese) which is a medal I made up, so I designed different medaparts for him to use and all of them are based on hawkmoths.
The last one, the Akahoujaku, is actually not Hummer but a different character but I don't want to spoil you who this character actually is ^_^
I suggest you to start reading from the last chapter, it's quite short and it will tell you a lot about both my medabots.

TheApprentice225 In reply to AltairSky [2018-02-09 18:57:43 +0000 UTC]

Far out!! Can other Medabots have functions like that, or are they specifically for a support class? If they're more like Passive Abilities that each Medabot could have I think I'd want to have Togi having Scout because having something like a SONAR I think fits her motif and I think that Buto would benefit from the defend option given his thicker armor.

Well you did an amazing job! They look like they're straight out of the show! You handled their designs, the original content like the medals, are all handled beautifully!

Thank you again for the link! I've started yesterday! I'm going to clear time to reread it and leave you comments worthy of the work you put into this! Each square is a treat, and the beginning with the chess match is cute!

AltairSky In reply to TheApprentice225 [2018-02-09 19:05:28 +0000 UTC]

Aww thank you so much! Feel free to leave comments if you have any question, I'll answer.
All medabots have 3 medaparts with a function: left arm part, right arm part and head/chest part. Of these 3 part, you can have 3 attacking part like metabee, or you can have 2 attacking part and one support part (like rokusho who has scout on his head) or you can have all 3 support part (like oceana or neutranurse) or 2 support parts and one attacking part (like megaphant who has 2 shields on his arm and the iron ball attack on his head), so it's up to you which combination you like the most.

TheApprentice225 In reply to AltairSky [2018-02-11 23:13:54 +0000 UTC]

Will do! Thank you!

I hadn't thought of that! Thank you! If that's the case, I think Buto would be a better full force attacker with 3 attacking parts so he can have the rockets as well as gun arms. I feel like that's the point of KBT types since the medals work so well with gun parts. Sonar/scout I think works well with Togi's motif of oceanic based and being a bot from a Fortune line; because being able to hit and detect well hidden foes would seem very lucky. Dracometa I'm not too sure about if he'd have an ability or not. Charge might work for him swooping down and moving some of his team-mates, but I'm not sure if he wouldn't be entirely attack based, or maybe act as a defender with an ability to sort of shoot down a lot of incoming attacks. I'd welcome your 2 cents on that matter.

AltairSky In reply to TheApprentice225 [2018-02-11 23:25:35 +0000 UTC]

I think it would make sense if dracometa had a charge ability on his head part so he could speed up his teammates or himself. Sort of like warbandit: warbandit has charge on his head and it's great.
Anyway I think you should play the medabot game for a few hours, it's absolutely the best inspiration when it comes to designing a medabot weapons. If you decide now you'll end up changing things after you played, lol.

Your comics also bring forth a lot of thought about medals. I want Buto's to be special in some way, on account of it still being in a more fossil and old state, but I'm not sure how I want that to manifest itself. I know its condition (as it's in rather poor shape) is a major part of his naivety, but beyond that, I'm not sure.
