Comic summary
The 3 not-so-princesses tells the tale of Peach, Daisy and Rosalina of the Super Mario franchise, with the notable exception that they live in the alternative universe of Rothingham, a dystopian and seemingly endless city. Stripped of their royalty, how will these alternative versions of our lovely princesses deal with the harsh reality of a city that doesn't give a crap about them?
Inspired by The 3 little princesses by Yves =TheBourgyman Bourgelas.
Page notes
Phew, after almost a full month, T3NSP is back and kicking. I hope this was worth the wait, and I certainly hope this gets you guys pumped for the rest of the comic.
On several occasions I have said that I wanted to write T3NSP in such a way to avoid the typical chick-flick pitfalls that bothers any media portraying the lives of those in possession of a uterus (in before that one movie about a woman having it surgically removed because of a type of cancer none of us know existed). While stories with male protagonists appeal to both genders, programs geared towards females tend to completely alienate the males because it usually boils down to "Oh my gawd! That guy is so cute!".
With male protagonists, love and relationships are issues that are being addressed, but they're usually portrayed in a way that it's more of an obstacle or something that has to be dealt with. This is how I translate this concept into T3NSP, as Rosalina has to deal with what seems to be a reminder of her past.
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't have a personal vendetta against Walurosalina or WaluxRosie or whatever it is you kids call the "ship". It's adorable in its own way. Please, Mario fandom, show me that you are beyond such things like "shipping wars".
Daisy is very concerned about this situation, you can tell by looking at her face.

Waitwaitwait... Is that sign politely asking for Schnauzers in that first panel? Nah, I'm just kidding: I have no idea what it's asking 'please?' for, though! XD And I wonder why Daisy doesn't like a whole bunch of people, other than obviously being claustrophobic. (I mean in the why aspect, but she'd probably punch me in the face and eat me if I asked, like that food-on-a-stick in that last panel. Look at the lust in her eyes! D: She's ready to pounce!)

The sign is a prohibition sign for unleashed dogs.
Whoever put it there knows that most people will do it, anyway.

Wow man, this comic is amazing so far...I'm really loving the art style and the unique approach to the Super Mario world (it reminds me of a grittier version of that old live-action Mario movie)
I will definitely keep an eye out for this, good stuff!

Oh dear god, you mean that 90s movie simply called Super Mario Bros.? I still don't know what to think of that. The whole Koopas-are-mutated-dinosaurs thing was convoluted and completely unnecessary. I suppose they were trying to milk the dinosaurs hype of the time and slapped the words "Super Mario" on it.
I realize that I'm kind of doing the same thing, but I believe their characters are true to their canonical counterparts, given the environment they're in. Updates should resume soon as I start production around this weekend.

Haha that movie...I try not to acknowledge its existence
But the comparison to your comic was more along the lines of all the characters living in a real city, living relatively normal lives

Glad to see that you like the comic so much.
Updates should resume somewhere next week. I've just been through a really rough month and I'm now enjoying the bliss of having nothing to do for the rest of the day.

Oh, don't worry about that. I much rather have people beg me for the next page that to update in obscurity while no one cares.
I can imagine that it's annoying when you run something that gets thousands of visitors every day and are flooded with messages when you miss an update, but that's not the case here.

Good page. I like reading this comic A LOT! Love how your flipping everyone roll and state to another thing (Princesses are not Princesses) Just wandering.
Are You going to make Bowser like, a criminal, or Mob boss? OR You just don't plan on bringing him into your comic?

And thanks for liking the comic.

Hey, Nintendo (or whoever was responsible for that matter) wanted to give Rosalina what is arguably the largest back story of any character in the Super Mario main canon, so I suppose it's very appropriate for her.
Although I toyed with the idea of Peach having a very dark childhood, with her parents either dead or putting her up for adoption at a very early age, causing her to spend most of her childhood in state-run orphanage home of doom. She'd dream of being the Peach we know and love and... wait.
Eureka! I think I just figured out the entire Super Mario universe. It makes so much sense now!

No, she's genuinely concerned about Rosalina's emotional state of mind and her interaction with Waluigi, she's powerless to intervene, which puts a lot of weight on her conscience.
That's why she happily takes a bite from her bear bite with such a clueless expression :]

Now look at that. Iยดm certainly not the only one who really likes the shadows of the trees. It creates such a nice summer atmosphere in my eyes.
Peach always has an expression as after an brain surgery. But an office job does that to you, I think.

TheArtrix In reply to soercling-Hemstaer [2010-06-28 19:00:16 +0000 UTC]
The line between a brain surgeon's patient and the exhausted look I'm going for is very thin, and I freely admit it's very hard to pull off. It occurs a lot when Peach frowns, which happens a lot in this comic.

Like I said to =gallantmon8 , Rosalina and Waluigi had a relationship that crashed and burned at some point. The interesting thing is that it isn't clear whether Rosalina is overreacting or if Waluigi did something that genuinely justifies Rosalina's hostility.

UseTheBrakes In reply to TheArtrix [2010-06-28 23:46:58 +0000 UTC]
Rosie isn't one who would overreact, I would think...
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
TheArtrix In reply to UseTheBrakes [2010-06-29 08:39:45 +0000 UTC]
Taken into account that Rosalina is misplaced in a universe in which everything is designed to piss you off, it's not all that unlikely that it clashes with her calm and collected mindset.
Let's say, Waluigi takes Rosalina out to a restaurant that assured him that they serve vegetarian meals, only to find out that it's one measly salad in a menu of nothing but the greasiest and ill-cooked meat there is. I can see Rosalina interpret this as "You don't care about my needs, you never listen to me" and all that good jazz.
Of course, this is just speculation, for all we know, Waluigi slept with another girl or something like that.
What I'm getting at is that our protagonists aren't inherently good. They have flaws, just like anyone else.

To piss off the characters, to be more specific. You don't want to live in a place like Rothingham.

TheArtrix In reply to UseTheBrakes [2010-06-30 09:14:21 +0000 UTC]
Yes, except that's a simple snack bar. People don't have high expectations of those and Rosalina knows it. But when your lover takes you out for a fancy dinner just to find out that the restaurant sucks, well, you get the idea :]

I'll second Av-Mom on those shadows...wasn't sure if they were clouds, or what, you could almost mistake them for stains (which, incidentally, suits the atmosphere fine as well).
Anyways, good to see you back.

TheArtrix In reply to MisterLumpy [2010-06-28 18:56:47 +0000 UTC]
Yea, out of context it looked like stains somewhat, shadows from leaves are very context sensitive.
