Every creature collecting or monster taming game needs a way to capture and store your beasts. So this is what I came up with the Traps and Capture Cards! (the name is a work in progress)After the seal was broken the government (or what's left of it) needed to find a way to enforce some control on the magical beasts that now populate the world. While in the scouting phase some surveyors discovered a creature aptly named the Trap. It spent its life laying on the ground waiting for something living to wander into it, because of this behavior it was easy to capture and contain. Over years of observation and genetic modification they discovered the trap had some sort of storage ability and they took advantage of it.
The Trap is able to easily devour anything that touches its open maw. When it does it melts its prey down into its key aspect, or soul and absorbs the body. The government was able to develop a special technology called capture cards specifically to be used in tandem with the Traps. They have the ability to siphon the aspect of a creature eaten by the Trap storing it for later use and easy control.
For context this game is going to be an action game getting rid of the turn based traditions of most creature collecting games. After weakening the monster you are battling you can aim your trap and sling it at it. Hitting the creature gives the trap a chance to eat the creature. After eating it, it fills an inserted card with the aspect of that creature while devouring its body. After successfully transferring the mind and soul of the creature into the card you can view various things about the creature such as name, species, attacks, spells stats, EVs, talents (abilities), etc. Because the creature has been reduced to nothing but code you can change this code making it easier to design the creature you want.
If you wish to summon forth a creature to fight along side you all you have to do is re-insert the card into your Trap. The Trap will regurgitate a slimy substance imbued with that creatures aspect. This slime reforms into the creature, this creature is biologically indistinguishable from a wild creature and now is under your control. Of course it still contains the mind and soul of that original creature so training will be required, but it can be easier to control if you are kind to it before capturing it.
Your Trap itself can be upgraded and modified throughout the game and grows along side you. Certain mods can be added such as a rocket mod to increase the speed and power of the trap, a homing mod which makes hitting your target easier, or a shield mod which allows it to act as a shield during battle and while not using it to capture a creature. Of course a whole plethora of mods awaits but those are just a few for example.
