Big fan of that 50's future look! As in all your work, love your attention to details - a real fun piece. Great stuff.

I love it. You must've done sooo much research to get it so "fifties". It's perfect.
Is there any significance to there being only one man in the scene?

theartyst In reply to JuneBerry [2008-11-03 15:11:42 +0000 UTC]
ain't that the truth
yes, significance abounds - it's one of the clues that the underlining premise uses (one could also ask, "why is there only women - using their gadgets") hmm
thanks

With all those pearly whites flashing, it makes me wonder if the women of the 50s intended to eat all their men in the future. lolz I wish I were better at rendering interpretations. xD Hey you wouldn't happen to have written an artist's statement for this series, would you?

the hardwood coating on the hover free zone is absolutely the icing on the cake in this piece
(I'm not sure if it's supposed to be that? but that's what it reminds me of, a bowling-alley like texture which would totally make sense since we're talking bout the 50s
)

hmm it wasn't intended 2 be a hardwood floor at all - I guess the color makes u think so,... I chose that color for an opposing/contrasting one against the blues, AND a color that would go with the yellow/red neons AND all the FLESHtones
thanks 4 the comment

yea what made me look at it as a hardwood floor, was the texture around the left side of it.. where the hover-board dude is
you gotta agree tho, having rollerskate-rink style hardwood floors in the stratosphere would be pretty awesome

roller-rink style hardwood floors in the stratosphere, hmm, lol (It is stratified in temperature, with warmer layers higher up and cooler layers farther down) my poor wood wouldn't last EVEN one season...

hahah well damn!! it's the future! I bet they'd have found some super-stratospheric varnish that people can buy with newspaper coupons by then !

I think of those old Disney cartoons where they were trying to give everyone an idea of what the future would be like. With crazy inventions and ideas.

Wow, great work. Even the rendering of the people looks very 50s.
I always get a kick out of the idea that having flying cars would be a good thing. Imagine having your car stall at 20 feet in the air or more! Haha.

theartyst In reply to KatWylder [2008-04-21 17:34:32 +0000 UTC]
thanks kat,
yeah, you'd stall out in the middle of traffic and virtually be bumping other hover-cars all over the place (with no anchor or means to stop a floating around) that's it !! Hover bumper cars!! They were in their heyday in the 50's -- by the way.
