Description
The Principal and the Pauper is one of the worst Simpsons episodes ever, so I ask you what would you do to make it better. One idea I have is that its revealed Principal Skinner had a brother named Seymour Skinner who was the nice one while he was the troublemaker with no future. They both served in Vietnam where Principal Skinner thought Seymour died sacrificing himself for him so thinking the world needed Seymour more than it needed him, he took up his brother's identity so he can live for him, lying about his own "death" though Agnes always assumed. Of course when the real Seymour returns, Principal Skinner gets caught and while this shakes the character's trust in him, this mainly leads to legal action since Principal Skinner faked his death and took someone else's identity. The episode wraps up with the real Seymour changing his name and such to save his brother and through some loophole in the Simpsons legal system, this saves Principal Skinner from jail time and Armin Skinner, as he now calls himself, leaves. I could see Armin being mad at the town near the end of the episode as he hates how the others were starting to favor his brother over him despite him still being around, plus he had forgotten how weird Springfield is, leading to a joke where he walks by Frank Grimes' grave XD.
However my favorite idea is that during Principal Skinner's celebration at the school, a man named Armin comes up to Agnes Skinner revealing she is her real son. Turns out the hospital accidentally switched Seymour and Armin when they were born and given to the wrong parents, so Armin wants to spend some time to know his real mother. This news also affects Skinner who takes a few days off to see his own biological parents, luckily Armin is also a principal. Here we get a story fitting of the title's reference, as Seymour and Armin find out what their lives would have been like if they went to their proper parents like Seymour has caring parents, more freedom, and is able to have fun without Agnes annoying him, and we see how good Armin is as a principal as he vastly improves Springfield Elementary, even getting Bart to willingly behave.
Of course we start to see the consequences of the changes like without his mother nagging him, Skinner gets lazy and goes overboard with his newfound independence that he starts facing some consequences like getting into a bar fight. Meanwhile Agnes starts to drive Armin crazy which makes him start being mean to the people of Springfield (even making Chalmers nervous) and starts overworking the students and faculty of the school. We also see Agnes realizing how much she needs and actually cared about Skinner despite her attitude. With the help of the Simpsons and other characters, Seymour and Armin mutually decide that the switch up was a good thing and go back to their regular lives, though there would be a scene where Agnes disowns Armin and adopts Seymour making him her legal son, and vice versa with Armin and his parents.
While not perfect these sound better then the actual episode.
