And I don't like how they keep calling Sir Topham Hatt "the Fat Controller"! Why not just call him by his name?!

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but in case you aren't: Sir Topham Hatt has been known as "The Fat Controller" since the third book in The Railway Series, James the Red Engine, first published in 1948. He was known as "The Fat Director" in the two prior books.
He has been referred to as "The Fat Controller" in the UK narrations of the television series since his first appearance in the first-series story "The Sad Story of Henry"/"Come Out, Henry!". In the US, he is referred to by his given name due to political correctness concerns.

Yep- "steamer" is more appropriate, sounds dignified/serious
"Steamies" sounds childishly idiotic

Agreed. In my stuff, "steamie" is a racial slur used by some of the diesels. The correct term for a steam engine is "steamer".

Calling a steam engine Steamie is like calling a black person a "blackie" or something like that.

The term Tankies make my main hobby look bad.

Thank you. Someone else thinks the term "Tankies" is just wrong.

You know, I didn't think the word Steamies sounded racist.

I agree with you, it sounds more childish than racist.

I can understand "steamer", but "steamie" just sounds like a really clunky racist term, so yeah, I'm with you there.

I think they would have been better off using steamer, it sounds less rascist

For some reason I read this in both Patrick Troughton and David Tennant's voices.

it feels like a racist slang when a diesel engine says it.
