This is a piece showing an original specie I made up last November, but now colored. This is a simple father/daughter pair in some sort of conversation with each other. However, I won't specify what they're talking about so the viewer can imagine it instead. I figure it would be fun to see what you all come up with ^^ I'm happy with how the characters came out, but I think the water could look better. This always happen when I have a big background with solid color; I give up on making the entire thing look consistent, and so little streaks or blotches remain. It's one of the things I have to work on as an artist; being patient with the whole process, even the little details that separate a good piece from a great piece. It had been three weeks since releasing my last complete traditional piece, so I was feeling that "rush" to get it done towards the end. Oh well, I'll have to just "stick with it more" next time!

This looks excellent! I like the inclusion of a background, and the colors are very pleasing. The characters look really cute too!

I need to learn patience, too...I rush everything, not always because I want to finish and move on, but because I get so excited to show everyone. xD
BUT ANYWAY, I know I just said this, and I say similar things often, but I think this is your best work to date!!!! So much is going on, the poses are great, and the background pulls it all together perfectly!
I wonder, for large colored areas like the water here, do you think those watercolor colored pencils might help? I admit, I've never used them, but I imagine it would help - you can lay out the color like this, then possibly blend it using water and a brush?
I have one critique I would give for this work here, just for you to remember for the future! Would you mind if I made a tiny, tiny redline? I see one little thing I'd fix!

I understand that feeling xD
Thank you! I don't have watercolor colored pencils though, but I assume they should be easy to obtain? I have a feeling I know what I did wrong here, but yes, a redline would be a HUGE help! (I'd wager it has to do with the father character's hind feet)

Ok uhhh, that didn't go so well, my photoshop crashed (ONCE AGAIN!) but here it is:
Ok, so for the red part, the tail line should end at the top of the back of the leg, but this may be the part you mentioned you figured it was! As it is, it makes it look like the tail is coming from the hip a little. x3
For the green part (I didn't notice this until I started redlining!), the middle paw pad should always line up with the middle of the toe lines. Unless your creatures have off-set paw pads, in which case I am wrong! xD
Other than that, I LOVE everything about these poses!!!

You know what, I think with the hind feet, it wasn't so much the paw pads that were wrong since the bottom of his feet were supposed to be more hidden, but it was the toe lines I drew in the wrong place! I should've "clustered" them more towards the paw pad so that it'd look like the paw pad was in the center of the foot (I hope that makes sense).

Oh...in the WIP sketch, I was told that the back of the paws shouldn't be as visible, which was why I turned them away from the viewer, and why the paw pads were away from the viewer, but I see I still couldn't get that right I probably misunderstood what I was supposed to do :/ It was actually the paw pads I was thinking about; I didn't know I had the tail wrong as well
Thanks for the help

That's why I like critique in the form of a "redline" instead of words or text. Art is very visual, so that helps you see EXACTLY what someone means when they try to explain something. I'm hoping it helped, and also, that it makes sense! x3

I may do a "Redraw" of this in the future, mostly to fix that error. Do you think that moving the toe lines "away" from the viewer could help as well? THe thing is, I wanted the paw pads in that location, so I drew those first, and it was the toe lines that made them appear out-of-place.

Ahh, then yes! moving the toe lines "away" from the viewer (closer to the back of the foot) would do exactly what you're hoping it would. So I actually "green-lined" the wrong thing!!! haha. xD

nice! I do like your full color pieces, they show more effort (don't mean that in a mean way!)

Looking pretty good! I'm not too keen on under sea environments, so I'm not entirely sure how to critique this. Maybe giving everything a bluish tint to it to give the illusion that everything is under water. And maybe making the sea rodents a darker shade of blue to show that. I'm not sure how that would be done with colored pencil though, considering I'm all digital art by this point

Thank you! I digitally made the image darker and then "colder" to enhance the underwater effect, but I guess I could've done more.
