To be fair, skeleton monsters don't have any skin or muscle or any of the liquids or fleshy bits that other monsters or even humans do.
So blunt force trauma and other forms of damage severe enough to crack and break bones would naturally effect them more drastically.
They just don't have anything to help absorb the force of the blow so their bones take the full brunt of the attack without anything to help dissipate the impact.
Granted, they don't have any internal organs so its not like a skeleton getting their skull cracked open is as immediately fatal as it is for other monsters...
But it's still not good and its not like just anyone could fight in that kind of condition... it wouldn't surprise me if Gaster passed out right after the human was dealt with.

Wow, cowinkydink (coincidence) here. I've had the idea floating around in my own head(canon) that a fallen human could have caused havoc for the skele-family (though in a different way). Though I guess it is a good idea; small wonder I find that it's already been thought up by someone else (at least once, here). I'm sad that this happened, but I like that you used it.

The Green and Yellow souls were adults as they were a chef and a cowboy/rancher/police officer. The Blue and Purple souls were a ballerina and a poet, so at the very least both would have been teenagers. The Cyan and Orange souls, from what I have seen were definitely children. 2 children, 2 teenagers, 2 adults.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I suppose people just assume all the fallen humans were children. I think one reason is all the shoes in
the guest room in Toriel's house. Although it wouldn't make all that much sense of 8 children fell. Even throughout the ages, adults would think to keep a bigger eye on the kids
