Hey, It's been awhile, but here it is!I have been getting quite a few comments about Gaster being a dick.
I have no idea where this Gaster hate is coming from, but if I can spoil one thing it is that Gaster is a genuine nice guy. In future comics, it might seem like he is brash and unreasonable, but that is because he knows (or thinks) that it will be safest for his children.
Why would Gaster set Sans arm in front of Papyrus with no drugs?
1) He knew with Sans distracted it would be easier to do (If he let sans know there would be a struggling/ screaming match with the possibility of Sans short cutting or injuring himself further).
2) Sure it would hurt, but it would be quicker than trying to get Sans down to the lab where Sans would fully know what was about to happen.
3) Why would Gaster have anaesthetics on him? Or even a syringe?! You think Sans wouldn't have freaked out over a syringe? If Gaster left to get one, do you think Sans would have stayed there waiting? Humans need Drugs because we have skin, muscle, nerves and tendons in the way.
4) Why in front of Papyrus? Papyrus would have heard the screaming anywhere in the house; it wouldn't matter where he was. Also, it not going to "traumatize" Pap, he is smart and decisive and understands why it needed to be done.
5) Why not tell Papyrus to leave? Because it was distracting Sans, Gaster needs a distraction in one way or another, and unfortunately, it was Papyrus. Gaster will feel wrong about it, but he trusts Papyrus enough to know that he will forgive him later.
6) Gaster doesn't get a kick out of seeing pain. Not in my comics and not even in Zarla's Handplates! But he is the royal scientist and is bound to be desensitised from both his line of work AND having lived through the war.
I hope this settles any confusion about the intention of Gaster in my comic.

i think your Gaster is a good guy - a good father even. that's the way it came across to me anyway.
the indecision and debate with himself, rather than out right doing it shows he did think it though, and still only did it because it was the best option at the time. had he not been a doctor i bet he would have done things differently - like go to one, even if it took a long time to get Sans to agree. you even had him express a few tells in his posture and eyelight movement, showing he genuinely had a hard time deciding this. take panel three -that face is one of indescribable turmoil (very impressively conveyed)
and now instead of telling Papyrus to leave, he's making sure he doesn't feel hopeless in the situation, giving him a task so he doesn't get anxious.
your Gaster seems very empathetic to others, doing what best he can at any given time. even if it isn't what feels right, he tries to do what he knows right
i can tell TheBombDiggity666 put a lot of thought into how to make the situation more real in how the characters would react to things. either that, or it's a natural talent. either way. bravo. truly

I didn't know anyone complained about that (I'm rereading now though, and I probably didn't read description earlier). I never saw anything bad in what he did here. To say truth it is one of the "fuzzy feeling in heart, soft and reasurring comics" I can reread when I need something with positive feelings from UT. It's obvious he used the distraction. Sure, he didn't use the painkillers, but you have a point, it would be much more stress for Sans to get time for getting, preparing and injecting the syringe, and he was already in big pain, so it would just make him suffer longer. And I think it had to be done fast because of Sans's powers too, he could lose control from prolonged pain. And well, let's be blunt, if I try to imagine "injection scene" I can see him escaping so harsh, he would make the injury much worse momentarily. He is just a kid after all, and I don't even think Gaster could keep him unmoving with one hand, and he would have to, if he used other hand for syringe.
I always thought it was really well made scene, just so you know ^^'

.. wow, some people.. his is great, and seriously even if you have flesh and shit, setting a broken bone HURTS there is no 'gentle' way of doing it. Even in a hospital it takes work to set a bone and often its just.. pull or push it into place and then give you a buttload of painkillers after.. And gaster is in a rustic place with limit amount of options open to him to take care of his child, who is panicked and hurting and frankly being a pill.

Ugh. I have forced enough medicine down my kids throats when they were tiny to know this feeling. Just as my mom did for me (I was a screamer with never ending ear infections, sorry mom). Ugh, neither childhood nor parenthood is for cowards. He could have done it better, sure, and probably will next time. Meanwhile, Papyrus' eyes in panel 4 give me life.

I didn't realize people were unhappy with how Gaster did this. I think a lot of people need to realize how stubborn kids are. I don't see anything wrong with Gaster's decision. By the way, LOVING these so much. You draw beautifully and I was in desperate need of some dadster.

I honestly think Gaster did what he had to. It's sort of like doing CPR, there's a chance you could break the ribs but would it be better if the person died?
Plus as a father, it's not always about agreeing with your child, he had to do what was bets to ensure he would properly heal. I don't think it would be that traumatic to Papyrus, at least he didn't witness what Sans did with the human.
