Hey, It's been awhile, but here it is!I have been getting quite a few comments about Gaster being a dick.
I have no idea where this Gaster hate is coming from, but if I can spoil one thing it is that Gaster is a genuine nice guy. In future comics, it might seem like he is brash and unreasonable, but that is because he knows (or thinks) that it will be safest for his children.
Why would Gaster set Sans arm in front of Papyrus with no drugs?
1) He knew with Sans distracted it would be easier to do (If he let sans know there would be a struggling/ screaming match with the possibility of Sans short cutting or injuring himself further).
2) Sure it would hurt, but it would be quicker than trying to get Sans down to the lab where Sans would fully know what was about to happen.
3) Why would Gaster have anaesthetics on him? Or even a syringe?! You think Sans wouldn't have freaked out over a syringe? If Gaster left to get one, do you think Sans would have stayed there waiting? Humans need Drugs because we have skin, muscle, nerves and tendons in the way.
4) Why in front of Papyrus? Papyrus would have heard the screaming anywhere in the house; it wouldn't matter where he was. Also, it not going to "traumatize" Pap, he is smart and decisive and understands why it needed to be done.
5) Why not tell Papyrus to leave? Because it was distracting Sans, Gaster needs a distraction in one way or another, and unfortunately, it was Papyrus. Gaster will feel wrong about it, but he trusts Papyrus enough to know that he will forgive him later.
6) Gaster doesn't get a kick out of seeing pain. Not in my comics and not even in Zarla's Handplates! But he is the royal scientist and is bound to be desensitised from both his line of work AND having lived through the war.
I hope this settles any confusion about the intention of Gaster in my comic.

Sweet little Papy! He'll be the best assistant ever. I totally agree that Dadster is just doing his Dad thing. It has to be done, or else Sans could face some serious permanent damage.

And yeah, I don't understand the Gaster hate either. I don't at all think Gaster's being a dick, the way I see it Sans is hurt and Gaster's getting it fixed as quickly and efficiently as possible, and that might make Sans hurt more temporarily, but it's better than dragging it out and potentially making it worse. I was never really into mollycoddling kids anyway
Btw out of interest, you mentioned Handplates Gaster, was that your influence/inspiration for your Gaster? I always saw hers and being much colder and distant, but I'm a big fan of both of them ^_______^

I like Zarla's Handplates but it is just too sad.
I guess people think scientists are cold and distant (which is a reasonable stereotype), but all the people of science in my life are really loving and caring so it's hard for me to picture a "cold science Gaster".
Plus I like science, so I don't want people to think that being a scientist turns you into a cold, unfeeling sociopath.

If you want to know where gaster hate is from read The River's Warning (Undertale Comic) or zarla 's Handplates comic series here-Index . That plus a lot of other comics, fan games, animation, that shows how much of a dick gaster can be, but I HIGHLY recommend those two.

I was meaning the fact that he was slowly killing a kid and was so casual about it. But if this comic doesn't give you the sense of garter being evil. Then read zarla's Handplates, because gaster does some f*cked up sh*the in that comic. Or watch the Undertale Echo animation.

I've seen this in MGS3 when Bs breaks Big Boss' arm! its painful but thats the only way to fix it! and ideK how in the heckle will a fakin SYRINGE work to stop the pain on a BONE, there are no bloodstream to stop the pain from you dinguses!

I kinda get a little annoyed to see all the ''I hate you Gaster'' related comments despite what Gaster is having to do. I mean, I get why but I think some people are a little too sensitive to Papyrus or Sans in pain. You're comic portrays Gaster as a good, loving father who'd never hurt his children in any way unless its absolutely necessary. And that's what I love about your version of Gaster. He's an intelligent, loving, and fantastic dad!

Aw man, Papyrus is reaching maximum levels of presh and I can hardly take it. I think people's enmity towards Gaster might just be carryover from other AUs, like handplates and such. I approached your Gaster as a blank slate, so to speak, and I never got the impression he was a "Badster." A bit stern and brusque maybe, but that's what a dad's gotta be sometimes, especially when dealing with discipline. I love the way you're handling his character, so I say keep carrying on <3 I look forward to the conclusion of this comic, and any other Gaster stories to come.

I'm a new reader--just recently discovered your fantastic work--and I wanted to mention how I have not felt malicious intent with your version of Gaster. He's one of the kinder versions I have come across and it's refreshing to have a more affectionate version once and a while. Speaking as someone who has babysat for kids in the past, you captured his struggle and tough position very well. I've never had to reset a child's broken bone--thank God--but I have had to pin them down in intense battles of wriggling and refusal, and sometimes, you just have to do what is necessary to help them, even if it's upsetting to both of you.
Congratulations on capturing both the situation and Gaster's personality without compromise. Skelefam is very engaging and I'm excited to read more! Go baby Papyrus go!!
