HERE IT IS! We are coming close to the end of this comic. I have finals this week so it may be coming close to the end of my life as well.I will be working on this a Christmas break, but this will most likely be the last update you will see until then.

Oh my, what a find! An excellent comic series. And I am _so_ glad that there are writers and artists dragging Gaster away from the evil-genius interpretation that seems most commonplace. I haven't too much of a sense of the guy myself but it's a little depressing how he's often turned into the monsters' Dr. Mengele.

I do like the evil Gaster's that are out there,
but the Undertale fandom seems to be just too depressing with them.
I haven't seen too many others portray Gaster this way either, let's just call him my Gaster ^^.

One day I'll thrash out my own conception of Gaster, maybe; I seem to have low efficiency in turning my notions into writing XD I'd been struggling with a way to reconcile the notion that Gaster created Sans and Papyrus with some ulterior motive in mind (like weapons research) with my desire to write a humane, sympathetic Gaster rather than another Rotwang or Dr. Strangelove type. I think I have my own solution to the conundrum but, eh...right now it's just a thought.

You could make it like it was his original intent to use them for research, but when they were "born" he realised how awful being the only skeleton is. He would just adopt them as his children instead.
My version, which I will later incorporate into my comic, is that creating the brothers was a team project before he was head of the department. When his team all agreed that creating skeletons would be the easiest and least sophisticated way to build hosts for their artificial souls. Gaster (feeling pressured and unsure) gave up DNA samples but was never fully supportive of the idea. He has some morals and is not a complete savage, so he later demanded the discontinuation of the project and the DNA samples to be destroyed. His team agreed with him as it was his DNA that they would be using, but they continued without his knowledge as the head scientist thought Gaster's actions were selfish. A few years later when Gaster had completely moved on from the project to complete his own (the CORE), he had accidently stumbled upon A skeleton child hiding in his office. Gaster was aware that he was the last of the skeleton race and immediately knew what was going on.
Soooo he took "Sans" and confronted his team with a little more than a "formal complaint", then got the royal family involved were he was given the parental guardianship of both "Sans" and his still to be born brother, Papyrus. As you can tell, he has also dawned the new "Royal scientist" and yadda yadda yadda here we are now.
Very long backstory, but I tried to do the same thing you are trying to do, so I hope it may help.

Oh, that's an interesting take on it! I considered something slightly similar, as an alternate take on the Baby Blaster AU, imagining that Gaster had initiated the project but that he baulked at further development, but had his work taken out of his hands by some overzealous colleague. But lately, inspired of all things by the game "Read Only Memories", I came up with a different concept. Not a "Baby Blaster" riff but something quite a bit different, one in which Gaster creates first Sans and then Papyrus in much the same way that the unseen Hayden creates first "Grace" then "Turing" as sapient AIs in the ROM game. I'm actually going to propose that the villain of the piece, if "villain" is really the word, is going to be not an OC but Papyrus (seriously), and Gaster ends up sacrificing himself to prevent a disaster that Papyrus inadvertently causes.
