Lupin III VS Inspector Gadget
It's a game of Cat and Mouse.
So Coran hit me up w/ the idea to do a two character jam, he choose a character for me, and I for him.
- Lupin III (as I knew Coran would be perfect for drawing him)
- Inspector Gadget (a great suggestion by Coran)

Heh, funny thing is that Inspector Gadget wouldn't exist without Lupin III.
After Leblanc's estate block TMS from doing Lupin IV, they still had to fill the show slot. Their Hail Mary came in the form of Inspector Gadget. So it can be said that the first statement is true.

Haha - I've always been reminded of Inspector Gadget when I watch Lupin. Perfect ... so much better than Conan vs Lupin! I would like to see James Bond take him on too!

The funny thing is Inspector Gadget was created by DiC as a replacement to their never made cartoon "Lupin the 8th". It was a futuristic take on the master thief but he is now a master detective who used his descendant's techniques to solve mysteries in the future (if the cartoon is intended for kids then the hero SHOULD NOT be a theif, even Jigen is seen with lollipops instead of cigarettes). He is still chased by that future's version of Zenigata for the crimes his descendants committed. Before you point fingers, Zenigata has a pipe in his mouth but it's actually a communicator device.
The problem was the rights to use Lupin were not cleared at the time so it was cancelled but the animation and music was done but not the voices. This Lupin the 8th special does appear in a DVD in Japan with subtitles since the voices were never recorded.
Why this has something to do with Inspector Gadget besides DiC made it? Well since Lupin the 8th got cancelled, DiC needed a new cartoon fast... and so they created Inspector Gadget in it's place.

But then years later, Shinichiro Watanabe came along and made his own rendition of Lupin The 8th in the form of Cowboy Bebop and then Space Dandy.

And here's the pilot to the series that got cancelled and replaced by Inspector Gadget since DiC needed a replacement. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0o9be… The reason for no voices is because the voice recording was never finished due to the rights of the Lupin name in limbo at the time.

I don't know if I've ever left a comment for this pic, but ... damn, it is crazy awesome. Two characters, both of whom are known for being rather clumsy or goofy (one of them only part of the time), and here they're so stylish and dangerous.
