Thing about gohan is that he hates fighting. Alot. He's not a wierd phyco who is OK with beating up and killing someone because he doesn't like them or because they call themselves evil. And hey, in the end he had a hot wife, children, a good job, and is the strongest non fusion our god character in dbz. I'd say he didn't fall at all.

Gohan is a lovable nerd who fights to protect others. If there's no reason to train he doesn't because he isn't a born fighter like Goku

I don't remember him falling as a character. Seems like he managed to grow up and become rather successful to me.

He was on the path to surpassing his father, something he never achieved because he stopped training and became a god damn pussy.

He never even really cared about fighting anyway. He was always guided more towards being a scholar and learning, which is what he successfully became.
He became a scholar, got a girlfriend, married, had a daughter. He successfully had a family... a family who he is able to stick around with and not constantly disappear off to whatever else at the drop of a hat. While Goku probably did try to be a good father, he never had a chance. Gohan, on the other hand can work on that because he isn't putting fighting at the forefront.
I would call that a successful life. He didn't need to follow in his father's footsteps. Did you even notice that as a kid, he didn't care for fighting?Β
