Captain Rath fancies himself a Pragmatist. And Artillery is a beautiful, beautiful thing.
Happy I was able to get this one out. Due to some data losses I had to do just about everything from scratch... again.

A lot of our Tau Players used Broadsides and hings with railguns. I tended to rely on infantry over armour o safe-guard myself from that.

I prefer the broadsides to most tau tanks myself
I have a unit of railguns and a unit with the missle launchers and they're run ^^
But tau need the heavier weapons as the fire warriors still don't get much in the way of heavy weapons

i prefer Kastelan robot maniples, servitors with arc-rifles or heavy grav-cannons...with a extra dose of Skitaii with neutron lasers....if just to ensure the Titan won't get back up.

Ah Skitarii, who get better troops for the same cost as my firewarriors, the one time I fought them did not end well
Nuked my poor riptide and beat my firing line in a straight up fire fight, even with an extra turn of shooting on them.
And that was without the heavy stuff, I don't really want to face a full Skitarii army O_o

i run the cult mechanicus, a very incomplete army, but so darn powerful, might not be worth their points but still like em.

So far the newer codexs, post craftworlds, seem to have had a rather large power boost, my friend collects admech cause he loves them, plus other armies that have got newer codexs lately and he admits there's a lot of power creep going on.
His armies have gotten newer codexs more recently than mine and he was the one who suggested we just don't bother with the game anymore.
But then I'm still waiting for a decent tyranid AA unit without needing to get add on books that cost more than the codex...
(also I will admit, fluff wise I love admech, but they have a riduculous amount of special rules, along with been BS4 and decent armour)
Sorry for the ramble!

the actual cult mechanicus (as opposed to skitarii) is pretty weak, lots of high toughness and high strength weapons, but WS BS of 3, but with basic troops being 50 points per guy, no AA at all in the army, and their elites being the biggest waste of money any imperial force has had, seeing the new Dark Angels codex which gets essentially the benefits you pay for with Skitarii and Cult Mechanicus for the price of a typical space marine...the power of cult mechanicus is fairly moot.

I just remember seeing the tech priest and getting worried
Oh, did Space marines get a massive power booster too?, I've yet to see the new codexs beyond that dev/assault formation that's insane :S

codex space marines has formations that have been banned, and the 3 vindicator tanks with their combo apocalypse blast with S10 AP1 ignores cover.
while dark angels have rerollable 3+ jink saves on their bikes, with the ability to overwatch on base BS2 all the way up to full BS 4. then they have a formation which allows vehicles to aid in overwatch for any unit that's within 24 inches.

there is a formation of two demi-companies which all you to take nearly all transports for free.

some derps try to claim it as balanced due to limited troops in a 1850 game, but when your running all razorbacks with heavy bolters you don't really need to worry about running a heavy support ever as your shooting more twinlinked heavy bolter shoots at a wider range of targets than a dev squad ever could, then running a sergeant with a melta up to anything too scary anyways. all with mobility and power.
but again it's dark angels who get the effect of creep the worst even when placed next to the admech's two armies.
BS2 on overwatch minimum, can be increased all the way up to BS4 on overwatch, and they have a support formation that denies enemies overwatch when anyone starting within something like 30" declares a charge. then with that formation rerollable 2+ jinks for the vehicles that make it up.
Cult Mechanicus have monstrous creatures that can tank a Imperial knight, but the DA have a army that can dodge an apocalyptic blast, and the regular SM codex has some real nice stuff to mess with a enemies head (like the fact all bolt weapons in the Imperial Fists can Re-roll any ones rolled on the to-hit)

Or any heavy support, as that's enough free firepower to scare most things :S
Heck it would give you th options to counter almost anything a player could throw at you.
I am kinda curious to see what th next none imperial code get, as the last 4 havee been imperial and got varying levels of massive boosts
Also I wonder what will happen now, with Age of Sigmar taking the limelight, will things get stepped back for 40k for a while do you think?
