Chapter 4 - A Misunderstanding

"You and your cousin are coming into town to host a party?" You took a swig of your soda, looking to Napstablook.

"A-ah, well, he's hosting, I'm just there to be a D.J." He looked down embarrassed, as you clapped your hands together.

"That's great, Napstablook! Your taste in music is awesome!" A light blush littered his ghost cheeks, as he blinked a couple times.

"I guess... Do you think you'll be able to go to the party?" You thought about it, when a skeleton came to mind.

"Is it alright if I brought Sans and Papyrus along with me?" You asked.

"Yeah, Mettaton would be glad to see them. How are they anyway?"

"Papyrus is the sweetest guy and Sans is always cracking me up. I don't know, they're both silly." You smiled.

"A-are you blushing?" You tilted your head and touched your cheeks, finding them heated.

"Huh, I guess I am." Napstablook flickered a little as a small smile crossed his face.

"Do you like one of them? If you do, you don't have to tell me, I'm just curious." You played with your fingers for a moment, before sighing.

"I think... I think I may have a crush on Sans..." You embarrassingly admitted.

"Really? I was sure it was Papyrus... Not that Sans is bad! He just... Usually gives the cold shoulder a lot. He doesn't let too many people become close to him." That didn't sound like the Sans you knew... Unless you considered his avoidance of talking about his old home.

"Are you sure? He seems so open around me..." Napstablook looked in thought before his eyes widened a bit.

"H-hey, how about you bring him and Papyrus over to the party? And while you're there, I can play a slow song. You can take that chance to dance and tell him about your feelings." It was your turn to think about it.

"Would you really do that for me, Napstablook?"

"O-of course! You're one of my best friends. It wouldn't be that much trouble." A smile lit your features.

"I'll take you up on your offer, Blook. I just hope I don't end up making a fool of myself..."

"Hey, if he ends up not returning your feelings, I know he'll still want to stay friends. He's cool like that." Suddenly the door to Napstablook's bedroom slammed open and you saw a... Robotic man? He walked over and looked into the video camera. You'd be lying if you said he didn't look handsome, but you could smell his narcissism through the screen.

"Blooky, who are you talking to?" The robots eyes landed on you and he smirked. "Why, hello~ Are you my dear Blooky's lover?"

You and Napstablook gagged.

"N-no way!" Napstablook quickly shook his head.

"We're siblings through music, dude." You shook your head, but smiled. "I assume your the Mettaton I hear all about?"

The robot flicked back his artificial, black hair and smiled.

"You assume correctly, my dear~ It seems your smarts match your looks." You became flustered and waved it off.

"Thanks, but both could use some tuning-"

"Nonsense! You're lovely!"

"Thank you. You're the one who's friends with Sans and Papyrus, right?" His eyes lit up and he grabbed the screen.

"You're ___! Papyrus has been telling me all about you! It's such an honor to meet you!" He winked. "Thank you for taking care of him, by the way. He is a good friend of mine. I owe you a car or something."

You sweatdropped.

"No way. I don't need payment to sit with someone I wish to sit with." He ignored your comment.

"Perhaps you can help my cousin with making the party playlist! You did say you were connected through music, right? You must have impeccable taste!" You blinked and nodded.

"Sure. I could do that, is that alright, Blooky?" You asked. The little ghost nodded.

"Of course, I could use a little more variety."

"Wonderful, I'll let you two get right to it~" Mettaton blew you a kiss, before standing up straight and strutting out of the room. You stifled a laugh, looking to the ghost.

"You're right. He is the complete opposite of you." Your comment caused Napstablook to sigh and nod.

"Yeah, he's definitely something else. Now, let me show you what I have on the playlist so far." He told you to find the playlist on Spotify and started to explain his ideas.

"___! THIS IS GREAT!" Papyrus brought you into a tight hug and began to swing you around. "THANK YOU FOR INVITING US, MY FRIEND!"

"Ah! Papyrus! Loosen up! You're hug is bone-crushing!" You joked.

"yeah, screw bear hug. this is a bone hug." Sans joked. Papyrus groaned in irritation and released you.

"HOW DO I SURVIVE EVERYDAY WITH YOU BOTH. AT LEAST ___ DOESNT DO IT AS MUCH WHEN YOUR NOT AROUND, SANS." Papyrus complained, sitting back down in his seat.

"hey, i can't help that i'm santagious." Papyrus shot a look at the snickering Sans. You nudged the big-boned skeleton, smiling lightly.

"That one was pretty bad, Sans." His expression seemed to soften as he sat back.

"hey, i may be the pun king, but that doesn't mean every pun i use is punfect." You snickered, causing his smile to widen, and stood yourself up.

"I'm gonna go get a refill. Do either of you want anything?" You asked, picking up your cup.

"besides some meat on my bones? i am good for now. thanks, ___." Sans gave a friendly wink.

"UGH. I AM ALSO SATISFIED AT THE MOMENT, ___. THANK YOU FOR YOUR OFFER!" You nodded and headed over to the soda fountain. You were about three feet away, when suddenly an arm wrapped around your waist, causing you to drop your empty cup. You were about to shout, but a hand covered your mouth and you were dragged around the corner, out of sight of the other students.

Your attacker turned you around and you were not surprised to find Caden. He gave you a blank look, as he removed his hand. You were about to give out a loud scream, but he suddenly smashed his lips against yours, pinning your wrists above your head. The kiss was rough and you struggled in his grip, but he dug his nails into your skin causing you to wince under his touch.

He pushed you up more against the wall and was about to force his way into your mouth, when you remembered something important. You brought up your knee and smash that spot where the sun don't shine. He yelped, releasing you. As he brought his head up, you socked him in the face, causing him to stumble onto his backside.

"You freak! You're so dead!" You swung around in the direction of your friends.

"Not so fast! What are your friends going to think if they see you like that? I'm not going to be here when you come back." You knew he was right and shot him a glare.

"To the main building first then? You're either getting kicked out or receiving a restraining order!" You hurried off, glancing back to make sure he wasn't following you.

~Sans P.O.V.~

I glanced at the boring professor discuss emotions, before glancing at my phone, again. ___ hasn't responded since the beginning of class and even then, I had no idea where she was. I looked over our previous texts.

*yo, ___. where are you? even my pun was attended.*

*Sorry, Sans. I'm busy in the office. I'll text you later, okay?*

*alright, i will let you off this time, but you owe me a bottle of ketchup.*

She hadn't responded since and I was beginning to have a bad feeling. I looked back at the old geezer of a teacher.

"Next class, we will finish our discussions of happiness and excitement and move onto one of the most questioned over emotions. Love. You're all dismissed." Dang, maybe the guy could read minds. Doesn't matter that much, I guess with me. I packed up, not really having anything out and exited the classroom.

"Hey, bonehead. Over here." I looked over to see a human I didn't recognize. He seemed pretty cocky though. I walked over, making sure my eye glowed a bit.

"what? you have a bone to pick with me?" I asked. He seemed taken back for a moment, before straightening up once more.

"Not me, but my friend, Caden. He wants you to keep your bony hands off his girl." My eye really flared up at that, causing the kid to jump back.

"sorry, is this about ___? last time i check, she was single." I growled slightly, even surprising myself.

"That's what she makes all new monsters think. She hangs around them, gains their trust and gets away with benefits. That slut's favorite part is revealing the truth to the monster she fooled. Looks like she has you wrapped all around her finger." I clenched my fists, not wanting to believe him.

"no... she isn't like that. she's too awkward and oblivious to pull something like that off." I said.

"Don't believe me? Here is your awkward friend an hour ago." He held out his phone to me. I took it and looked at the first picture. My imaginary heart dropped. ___ was making out with some human guy I hadn't noticed before. It was recent, she was wearing the same clothes I saw she had on earlier. I shook my head, scanning through the pictures, but each became worse and worse.

They were all over each other. My left eye bursts into flames, as I crushed the phone in my hands.

"Hey, that-" I used my magic to form it, again and threw it back at the guy.

"i don't want you or your friend interrupting into my or my brothers life after this." I stated, beginning the storm off, causing the lights in the hall to flicker.

"No worries, glad doing business with you."

~Reader P.O.V.~

You stepped out of the building and let out a sigh. The administrators saw the footage of what Caden did to you and were discussing what they would do about him. For now, you would have to wait for their answer. You walked out to your car, pulling out your car keys. Reaching your drivers door, you began to unlock it, when you felt all feeling leave your body for a moment.

"What was..." Before you could examine the area, your feet left the ground and you found yourself floating in midair. You yelped in surprise, noticing a glowing blue heart appear on your chest. You looked around for the source, when a familiar skeleton stepped out from behind a car. You let out a sigh. "Sans, you scared the heck out of me. Can you let me down?"

He didn't respond and you noticed his right eye held no pinprick, his left holding a blue flame of a pupil. It made the hairs on your neck stand, but you reminded yourself that this was Sans. One of your best friends and one of the sweetest guys you know. Or at least, that's what you thought.

Sans merely flicked his hand and you tumbled to the ground, scraping up your arms. You flinched and examined your arms, before looking to Sans.

"Sans, what-" And then he did it, again. You were lifted into the air and then slammed into the ground, causing you to become winded. Sans stepped forward and you scrambled onto your feet, backing up. "What the heck, Sans?!"

"shut it." Taken back, you notice the obvious glare in his eye and can feel his tension. "i don't want you interacting with me or my brother, again. understand? we don't like being played for fools."

"What? What are you talking about?"

"it doesn't matter, you know what you did. just stay away from me and my family." He shoved his hands in his pockets and turned away. You were so confused, as you stepped forward slightly.

"Sans, I would never hurt you or your brother. Those promises I made you, I didn't break one." You could see him visibly tense up.

"they don't matter now, break them all you want. but attempt to do the first one, again, and i'll really show you a bad time." He walked off, not looking back. You felt your already wounded heart shatter, as tears pricked your eyes. What just happened? Why did it happen? Was this because you didn't show up to class?

It didn't matter, Sans hated you. What could you do to change that? You slipped into the car and locked the doors. You stared out the window, before bursting into tears and burying your face in your arms.
