Description
Woot more Dragon Age fan art!Taken, word-for-word (save the thought bubble), from a potential conversation you can have with Leliana if you're romancing her. If you get her up to 100 approval, she'll proposition your character to join her in tent, only, as always, she takes a more subtle approach.
It's fun to turn her subtlety on its head. Makes me giggle every time. I had to draw this after it happened to my mage in-game. In addition to being amusing, however, it was also completely in my mage's character to not get the hint: he's about as virginal/oblivious as Alistair.
Leliana doesn't look great in most of this comic, but ah well.
EDIT: For those of you curious, I recorded the scene this comic comes from (including my mage character, Legam). You can see it here .
EDIT 2: Damn, this is getting popular (by my fan art standards, at least).

Believe me, it is. And it's hilarious to play.

I do so enjoying playing Legam. A character like him in a dark fantasy setting is quite amusing. xD

Your mage is pretty handsome, not gonna lie. Poor Leliana.

Heh. This was the first time I drew him. He looks better in my later fan art drawings.

Oh no, he's a warrior, but he's... slow for some kind of things you know, hehe.

In the game for me, or in my little stories/art with them?

It depends on several factors - hardened or not, dark ritual or not, sacrifice or not, what you do afterwards.
For my plays the above mage, I didn't harden Leliana, had Alistair do the dark ritual, survived killing the archdemon and chose to rebuild the Grey Wardens. In that instance, Leliana stuck with my mage to help.

Thanks. My other DA art is better than this comic, though. Got better at drawing them after I did it.

'Tis cool. People at the Bioware Social Network confuse me for a guy all the time since I play and draw male PCs.

Your character is *SO* cute!!! I played a virginal sort of maid too... that didn't end as well romancing Alistair. This is far cuter.

Ha ha, thanks. He's my favorite Warden - I've beaten the game with him three times now. If you liked Legam in this comic, check out the short fics that accompany my Seasons of Love drawings. He's downright adorable there, especially in the flowers one.

I like your point of view, and I like that you let your characters drive the decisions, instead of the other way around. I find way too many gamers out there who are just playing proxies of themselves, which is satisfying for themselves, but boring to others.

TheDalishRanger In reply to InverseReality-2 [2009-12-28 11:47:59 +0000 UTC]
Why thank you. I never like playing proxies of myself. It's probably impossible for none of my personality to leak in at least a little when I play (especially since I have a very hard time playing jerks/evil), but I never like playing straight "me" in games. Legam's probably the Warden closest to my personality, and he's still very different from who I am. I love character design/writing, so I play a character, not me. Isn't that why "role" playing is supposed to be about, anyway? But, that's just my two cents on it.

My sentiments exactly! It's nice to meet someone else who is into creating characters and not just playing versions of their idealized selves.

Well, I'm a recent BFA graduate and my ideal job is to be a concept artist for games/cartoons - specifically character creation. So I take it pretty seriously. Each character I make in a game is an opportunity to play somebody new. I think it's one reason I prefer playing males to females - I'm already a woman, I know what it's like. I'd prefer to get into somebody else's shoes for a bit.
Also: Perfect characters are boring. I like making the "wrong" (not necessarily "evil" or "bad") choice in games sometimes; people are flawed, and I try to reflect that. Sometimes my characters get snippy or act too rashly if emotions are heated.

I alternate between playing difference genders. I also try to let the environment shape the concept of who or what my character will be. For Dragon Age, I came up with a different slogan for every character, and shouted a lot of nonsensical battle cries at my tv while I was at it. ^___^

I sometimes play females to change things up, but I find most games I prefer playing males. The only exceptions are KOTOR2 (where I preferred being a female) and Mass Effect (where I liked each Shepard about equal; male Shepard still a bit more, but I think Jennifer Hale's excellent voice acting made me like playing as femShep more than I would normally) You sound like someone I would have a lot of fun hanging out with and gushing about Bioware/games to in person.

Are you familiar with using IRC? Some of us have created a channel and "hang out" there. NetiCora's post here explains how to get one: [link] I usually just use the IceChat client. Maybe I will see you in person?!

I appreciate the invitation, however, I unfortunately have a no-chatrooms policy, even if it's full of people I know; I'm always doing something else when I talk to people online (usually comic/commission/website/etc work), and I find chatrooms too distracting to get enough work done. I do, however, manage to handle IMing only one or two people while I work just fine. If you have AIM (preferably) or MSN, you can get me on that.

Didn't know that existed! I'll take a look (I also have a Leliana fan comm on LJ - makers_breath ; if you or anyone else is interested in that, feel free to join/share - we could use more activity, heh!)
I'm hollychan5 - I'll have to add you to my unblocked list on AIM. One of the reasons I can handle the IM is because only people I allow to IM can; everyone else is blocked by default. No spams or IMs from old exes annoying you, ha!

Oh, are you the one running makers_breath? Neato. Can't say that I'm a huge Leliana fan -- I like her well enough, but haven't felt the need to do anything about it. But if you guys are open to random lurkers. XD
So, ok, cool! I'll IM you sometime.

TheDalishRanger In reply to InverseReality-2 [2009-12-29 19:52:25 +0000 UTC]
Yup, that would be me. Got one other person helping maintain it, but I created it. Doesn't require a lot of maintenance right now, though - pretty slow there. Most everybody's focusing on Alistair or Mass Effect coming out next month.
Lurkers are perfectly fine. I lurk more than I post in most fandoms, myself. There's only one or two posts on the Leliana comm that are currently marked as members-only.
Dunno what timezone you're in, but I'm EDT/EST (I think that's GMT -5?) I tend to get on once or twice a week in the evenings after 8 or 9.
