Description Well, the only other stamp out there related to the movie was for Tack, so I figured that Thief needed one too.

I Probably Prefer The Silent Thief in the Original Film. His Wheezes are Pretty Funny (Especially Him Getting Beat Up by Yum-Yum's Nanny and the Arm Chopping Scene).

i never saw the Miramax version, and i'm glad i didn't, because i love watching Thief's facial expressions rather than his words. (so much funnier) XD

The monologue this guy has in the Miramax version is honestly hilarious because...it just doesn't fit. Like at all. It's so obvious that this character was designed to be silent so I just feels like some guy's riffing the whole time and it's funny as hell.

there's a guy I watch on youtube who primarily focuses on Disney stuff. His name is Tony Goldmark; and during his review of Aladdin 2019 he brought up the Thief and the Cobbler for a brief history lesson of sorts, and when he showed a clip of the trailer where it does that "With the voice talents of" bit, I just kept going "wait, what? What?!" the whole cast for the Miramax version is so weird

Al least Tak's KINDA fits. Like, it's quiet and shy and that's at least what his character is like but this dude just seems so off. Like there's not way he's the kinda guy making wise cracks in his head. He takes himself like oddly seriously throughout the film. Like...it's funny as hell.

oh absolutely, I think Brodrick's voice fits the character based on looks and personality. However, it also kind of ruins a cute punchline to a joke that the Recobbled Cut already has/left in. In the original version, Tak has a spoken line at the end of the movie.

Like, I think the voices fit the looks of the characters, but because they don't actually talk, it takes away from some of the humor and jokes XD

Exactly these were designed to be silent characters. Adding dialogue is just.....weird tbh.

I remember watching an old Nostalgia Critic episode around 2011ish making fun of the Miramax cut, and he recommended looking for the Recobbled Cut of the film when it was still on youtube at the time. Really glad I watched the full version of that instead, because the animation already spoke for itself

I love his quotes.
"Nobody lives like this except college kids."
"So this is soap, huh. I've read about it in fairy tales and story books."
"Oh, naked lady..."

To be honest, I haven't yet watched the Miramax version, so I've never heard him talking

At least, I don't think I've seen it. I might've watched it when I was very very young. Hmm....

R-Daemonski In reply to TheDemonSurfer [2011-10-18 21:33:23 +0000 UTC]

Ah, well, most of the dialogue in that movie is awful. He has the only decent lines.
The Recobbled version is the best, I assure you. Unless you think Matthew Broderick as Tack is a good casting choice, in which case I punch you in the face.

XDD I like the ReCobbled Cut a lot, and it was the first version I watched.

Aww, I kind of like Tack's voice. It was cute. Though I did skip the songs.

And YumYum's voice makes me want to rip my ears out.

The Thief is awesome. I love the scene where he finally climbs up onto the minaret to steal the golden balls, and he strikes that sassy pose.

I adore The Thief, he's hilarious and just so damn determined. I guess you could say...he's got balls.

(Miramax needs to die)

TheDemonSurfer In reply to Chargal4 [2011-04-01 05:40:07 +0000 UTC]

It's called "The Thief and the Cobbler". There are three versions off it that you can find online. I recommend the Recobbled version, which is truest to the original ideal of the film. Alternatively, there is the Miramax version, which has the Thief internal monologuing all through it

I've actually never seen the Miramex version with the Thief's monologues in it. But hey, you like best what you see first, so his talking will probably be as weird for me as silent Thief would be for you.

Glad you like the stamp!

You're welcome! The monologues are very funny. I can see the comedy in the silent Thief but, the monologues are absolutely hilarious.

At least, I they are.

YAY! Using it!

BTW, I know Richard Williams wouldn't like to hear this, but I enjoyed the Thief's inner monologue in the Miramax cut of the movie. I laughed my ass with it when I was a child.

I found the Recobbled version and watched it, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Except....for some reason CE and I could swear that we've seen some of the scenes with the Thief in them, and I know I'd never watched the movie before. I'd remember Tack and definitely Zigzag.

Then that would be the Miramex version, originally called Arabian Knight. There's a whole shitload of stuff about the Thief and the Cobbler on Wiki. there are 3 different versions of the film: the original (Which was never finished), The Princess and the Cobbler, and Arabian Knight.
