Archimedes issue #10

We start at a hidden lab in Cadowen Industries where Donna is overseeing the deconstruction of the ‘Archimedes Power Cell’. It is explained that the cell does not actually generate power but instead uses an advanced chemical reaction to activate potential energy in the surrounding atmosphere and then a compressor engine to convert it into electrical energy for consumption by the suit. While they can mimic the design and chemical composition they’re currently unable to match the sophistication, at least on such a small scale. Donna declares that is not good enough and insists that they have a workable prototype of similar if not smaller size by the end of the week.

We then catch up with Kirby who has overtaken his father’s old base and fully integrated the C.L.A.W. AI into its operating system. Currently, he’s giving a tour to Marietta, showing her all of the projects he has been working on over the past few weeks, including a new suit concept he was planning to debut this week. This included an upgraded jet-pack and a heavily modified flying drone to house his assistant AI, and carry some heavy weapons in case he runs into trouble out in the field. He has also integrated a sonic weapon into his left gauntlet allowing for it to emit a debilitating sound pulse in addition to the bolas and pepper grenades.

Marietta expresses worry for him, saying that it’s possible he’s getting in over his head, he’s already been beaten and captured once, it’s possible he may be biting off more than he can chew. Kirby argues that she’s the one who gave him the confidence to keep going, but she fires back, that was to get him to stand up to a bully, and things have kind of escalated since then. While they continue to discuss, a notice comes over the police broadband (Kirby had hacked into it) detailing a high-speed chase through the city. Seeing this as a good a time as any, Kirby suits up and heads out to help.

Using his new suit and weapons, he is able to stop the car and incapacitate the driver when he attempts to pull a gun. Kirby is then congratulated by an unexpected guest, a flying woman who calls herself Osmium, leader of the Wall, a government sanctioned and funded institution dedicated to maintaining peace across the world. Having gotten Kirby’s attention, she flies him off to a more private location and has a discussion with him about joining the team. Kirby is naturally overwhelmed and needs some time to think it over. Osmium agrees, saying she’ll be in town for a few days and she’ll find him for his answer before she leaves.

Meanwhile, back at the hidden laboratory, the lab-techs are still struggling to fill Donna’s order, working around the clock with no sleep until one of them finally collapses from exhaustion onto his computer. As he falls, his body presses several keys and activates a synthesizing sequence before the chemical compound could be properly balanced. The resulting explosion engulfs the building in flame.
