1 Harlequin: “That Summer Gleeson bitch is positively giddy about spilling the tea. It’s unseemly.”
1 Joker: “Journalism isn’t what it once was.”
2 Harlequin: “So we’ve hit a setback.”
2 Joker: “Not much of one. Although I don’t like the name. ‘Jack Napier’. It makes me sound like a British dandy.”
3 Harlequin: “You could submit an alternative identity. Introduce doubt.”
3 Joker: “I’ve told conflicting stories about my origins to pretty much everyone I’ve met. Gallingly, only he would never listen. But it’s immaterial.”
4 Harlequin: “Did you lie to me, too?”
4 Joker: “Of course. Would you expect anything less?”
5 Harlequin: “I suppose not. Although I was truthful with you.”
5 Joker: “You’re my apprentice; you’ll learn to do better in time. But as to the current issue; even if I were to offer my true story, on the air to Gleeson, it wouldn’t be believed.”
6 Harlequin: “The Riddler was right. Batman made you mortal.”
6 Joker: “He’s too late. Before this spear, it may have worked. But now… now it is too late. Who and what I am, or was, or will be, is beyond his ability to shape or conform to his own narrative. And that is true regardless of whether I have an origin or not.”
