hahahahahahaha everybody keeps asking you the same thing! lol - it looks terrifying to be honest, i mean, i'm guessing you're not a pilot either, but surely it would pitch and yaw like mad!

That's really sweet. Maybe it'll grow up into an F-16!

My God, there is no way that thing can get off of the ground.

... It looks more like a rock than a plane.

It actually never had to take off from the ground. It actually was what they dubbed a "parasitic fighter". Back in the mid-40s fighter jets used too much fuel and were just incapable of escorting bombers on true long-range missions so they revived the idea of having the bombers carry along their own jet fighters. Sadly it flew well, but it was just too difficult even for experienced pilots to get the thing back up to the bomber's grappling hook and back inside so they scrapped it. This is one of the only two left, so it is really a unique and amazing thing to get to see up close.

Nifty -- I've only seen technical drawings of this one, nice to see an actual pic!

Sadly only two were ever made. One is in the Wright-Patterson museum and we have the other. I never tire of looking at it. Such a strange, cute little thing. Unfortunately the last time I was there they had moved some of the exhibits around and the Goblin was in a spot it was hard to get good pictures of.

Thats a rare bird I remember that it was gonna be a parasite fighter for the B-36 but inflight refueling killed it

WTF they exist?! thats so cool! I thought they just made them up in battlefield 1942:secret weapons of world war 2

Yep - they exist. And they are funky looking little things. I guess the hook part was harder than hell to use and the pilots hated them so the program got chucked.

i think they look like an egg with wings myself.
