Description

Here's a close-up of my muscle study on maiacetus inuus, who is part of my illustration that shows the evolution of toothed whales. Check out my other studies linked below to learn more about these animals! Muscles done in marker, colored pencil, and white pen.

Awesome, this might help for a maiacetus sculpture I plan on doing. How do you determine how to recreate the muscles of an extinct animal, other sources or a lot of anatomical knowledge? I'm good with skeletons but never really learned the muscles.

Thanks!! I'm glad it help you! How I do the anatomy is I look at modern day animals that are related to the prehistoric animal i'm recreating. For maiacetus I focused on artiodactyla references like hippopotamus to help me out.
