This is amazing and very beautiful work! I really appreciate that you didn't make this woman sexualised. The style of clothing for the era does that a bit anyway but it's lovely to see *her*, and *her* in uniform and it works well. Aside from her clothing, her stance is sensible, and she's not trying to be simultaneously prepared for battle whilst pouting and sticking her hips out.
I think the only thing I could possibly have asked for to make this picture perfect would be a splash of colour regards skin tones, as even during this time period pirates were a [relatively] egalitarian bunch regards race, in so much that any nation with a sea might have them and some crews were rather mixed, lol. But I'm not sure what the details of your commission were so that might not have been a choice.
Regardless: Awesome work! I really love every little detail - the slanting camera angle for the [mine/cave?] (almost as awesome as actually slanting the floor, having the setting as a ship being bashed by waves), the way you match the colours of everything whilst also making the whole setting (and everyone in it) look grimy and dark, the care taken to make the clothing they're wearing look like it has seen some action. Did I mention the lighting and shadow?! Beautiful work.
I need to hunt through your work to see if you've ever done any fanart for Mass Effect (computer game series) because if you've done a FemShep I will want to beg to add her to a Facebook page's albums (I run a page called Mass Effect Female Shepard) although I figure any piece you do is going to be *epic*!

I can understand that. When as an artist you want to get something right, you want to do it right, or not at all! That said... I've seen FemShep pieces with (arguably) half or far less than half of your skill level, that have actually turned out to be amazing pieces. I think that's one of the nice things that fanart encourages people to bring out - about art, I mean. As in... that you can with limited materials, even limited body part co-operation (!) still produce something that tugs at the heart or 'makes perfect sense' in the eyes of someone who sees it.
I saw a rough crayon sketch of a [could be any woman] FemShep suspended in green water. Don't think the artist had even dared do armour... all they did was put the title "Across the sea". Immediately I felt the tug... It was someone's FemShep, ending with Synthesis (I'm no fan of the endings but this was great symbolism), dead... and about too meet her love, Thane. So... If someone far less skilled than you can pull that off, I can only imagine what you could dream up. All I'm saying is don't be so hard on yourself! Your work is amazing.

yea thanks for that. I guess its how i was trained. Negative reinforcement and harshness keeps us going... sorta like how a sith lord craves power XD

The point of view on this is great, along with the unsettling perspective. Nice work.
