Description HUGE FILE IS HUGE. And full of empty space.
Part 1/3

~EDITED~

Each Archimedean and Catalan solid has a net on Wikipedia, down on the right-hand side of the page. The net is basically the solid's sides laid out flat.
For example, the Wiki page for the solid used in this tutorial is here: [link] . See the orange mess on the bottom right (you'll probably have to scroll down)? That's the net. O:

Oh, and I should probably explain how I get the individual patterns. ;; In short, I take one from the net and zoom in on it using a graphics program until it's the right size.
As for the size... Each solid on Wiki is 3 inches across on my monitor. Say I want the quilt ball to be 9 inches across. Now, I'd take a ruler and measure the frontmost edge; it'd be the most accurate reading. Say the reading is 1 inch. So. Edge/diameter of the original is 1/3. Edge/diameter of the quilt ball is x/9. 1/3 = x/9. Do some simple math and~ we find that x=3. So that edge of the pattern should be 3 inches long. Yay math!

As for sewing the sides together, there's no particular order. As long as the pieces are in their correct places according to the net (ie, don't sew a pentagon where a triangle belongs), it'll all work out.

If this is really confusing anyone, just ask and I'll try to help. ._.;;;;
