I wouldn't be surprised if that is the case. I mean, come on, what would be SO hard about making a series with the TOS designs? ST: ENT did it with the Mirror Universe episodes. Hell you want a great example? How about the thing they tried SO HARD to kill Star trek Axanar!? The short on Youtube looks a million times better than Discovery. Why? Is being Star Trek not Star Wars!

I agree. I don't agree with what Alec Peters did with the donations people sent in, misusing other's donated money is bad. But his product is still 10 times better then what CBS put out. Hell, CBS didn't even hire The Light Works, some of the best CGI artists in the business, who have worked on Trek in the past, for Discovery. Peters did though, and their work shows.
In the end CBS was jealous that a fan film was more strongly supported then their product, and because it was around the 50th Anniversary, they decided to lose their minds and go hog wild on sanctions and lawsuits. The result? An alienated fan base and destruction of one of two mediums Trek fans had to express themselves (the other being writing) and put themselves into the universe, to live a dream you otherwise can't live, and the best part, to share it with others for free. When something is made with love, care, and devotion, you don't need to sell it for money, it sells itself....for dreams.

I agree wholeheartedly. I honestly wonder if Alec Peters didn't start making money off of Axanar if CBS would have still gone through with the case. In any case, if they hated Axanar so badly....what was stopping them for doing what they said they were going to do and give us a story in the prime TOS line with the old designs and saying: " We can do this better you know!"

What was stopping them was they didn't want that. They wanted to give Trek a new spin and rewrite the stuff because somewhere inside CBS are millennials and SJWs who want to use the show as a blanket (and a thin one at that) to show todays world issues. Except instead of doing it creatively like TOS, they are doing it blatantly.
They are disrespecting the soul of Trek, all for the sake of money and whining. CBS thinks it can do better but at the end of they day they are just scared because they know they can't. They are a company whose leaders are behind the times and whose employees are too stupid to know better.

I literally couldn't have said it better myself. Granted some thinsg in discovery ARE interesting ideas but they just don't have teh feel of old trek. Hell even the JJ verse is more Star Trek than Discovery! And at least after The Narada attacks teh Kelvin and Vulcan gets destroyed, Starfleet has a REASON to be more militaristic. In Fact, if they wanted to make a show with a new spin, why not use teh JJverse? Its new, it has potential and its set in the same damn time period!

Exactly. Discovery could have been an expansion onto the universe Abrams created, and shit that would have been awesome!
But no, they want to rewrite prime timeline/universe stuff because....why not, sounds like fun. Lets just alienate our fanbase after 50 solid years of amazing Trek. Cause you know we got nothing better to do, except count the money we're making because we killed fan fic films so now people have to watch our shitty Trek to get any Trek because they don't like reading.

Unfortunately. Meanwhile Star wars gain even more money due to them not caring as much about fan films as long as they are just free to watch (Case In Point, TIE Fighter by OtaKing77077) While after a while CBSΒ will realise "Um wait...we are losing money!" And by then it will be too late. Or maybe not. Battlestar Galactica was rebooted due to a fan film, so who knows what Trek future will hold. Hell the show is so popular we got teh first Space shuttle named after the Enterprise Starship not the Carrier!
