Description
I wanted something TOS, but different than standard TOS, hence the angle.

Makes me want to watch "Amok Time" again. I always wanted to see Spock's "wife" T'pring return; she was one of the most interesting characters from the original run - and one woman Kirk would be wise to stay away from.

Spock having to deal with his seven year itch? Β
Great shot and great angle. Β The original Enterprise design is still fantastic after all these years.

Excellent work!Β I love the planet.Β How did you make that?Β (If I may ask ...)

thefirstfleet In reply to scifieric [2019-05-25 16:40:50 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much!
Here's my method:
- innermost sphere: 100 units. UWV mapped tiled seamess texture
- middle sphere: 101 units. Simple spherical map of a cloud layer with opacity
- outer sphere: 102 units. Opacity based on falloff and gradients to simulate the atmosphere
The planet textures: dig through NASA's Earth surface photos. If you see some nice or weird looking terrain, make a tileable texture of it
I know you don't use 3DS Max, but I can send you the files if you'd like it

I'll try my own, but thank you for the offer!Β Again, you do a brilliant job, especially with the planets!Β (Wow!)

I'd like to ask: how do you make that cool blur/grain effect? I can never get it right.
π: 0 β©: 1
scifieric In reply to thefirstfleet [2019-05-26 16:40:46 +0000 UTC]
There are three different ways for me.Β The best looking one is:
1) Use Photoshop to add 2-4% noise (to simulate grain) to an image, then blur 1 pixel.Β Afterwards, change brightness and contrast to taste.
2) Use Photoshop's film grain, but change the defaults so that you don't blow out the image.Β I almost NEVER use this option.
3) In Blender, create a noise texture.Β Add it to the image with a Blend Node, tone it WAY down.Β Change the defaults on the noise to more closely resemble film grain.Β Add about a 2% blur to the image.Β This is probably my least favorite, but once you set it up, you can turn out entire animations with it.Β Change brightness and contrast to taste.

Cool, thank you!
I'm using Photoshop's grain tools, but it always comes out as too small. The drawbacks of rendering in 4k

Render the grain separately at a lower resolution, then enlarge!
